Sophie dropped the book she was reading on the floor, took her fluffy pillow, and yelled into the pillow to muffle her scream. Sophie is a fourteen-year-old girl, who has always been treated like a stranger by her stepmother in her father's house. Her mother died when was just a baby. She never had the chance to know her mother or bond with her. It was just her and her father. Four years later, her father brought home Angelina and her daughter. The only thing her father told her was that Angelina is her stepmother and she should love her.
Sophie's father is a businessman who deals with silver and gold. So this business requires him to travel a lot and sometimes he is gone for months. Angelina from day one had never treated Sophie as her daughter but treated her with so much hatred. When Sophie isn't doing chores, she is locked up in the arctic with the keys in the hands of Angelina.
On a fateful night, Sophie woke up from a chattering sound. She immediately looks through her window to see the people passing by and she has no one. Confused with the chattering noise she kept hearing, she opened her window to climb out and see what was making the sound. Climbing down on the wall of the house was Sophie's secret passage of sneaking out of the house.
As she got down, the chattering noise became louder and it was coming from the woods close to their house. She then whisper to their house gate and said, "Please be quiet". Unlocking the gate, she began to walk towards the woods.
As she was walking into the woods, she suddenly saw something strange on the path ahead into the woods. The moon was out and at its highest peak. Its light shines directly following the path ahead. Sophie saw millions of tiny footprints going into the bushes, crossing the paths, and disappearing into the bushes on the other side. So she followed the footprints.
Carefully thrusting away the bush and scrubs she slowly followed the mysterious footprints. The sky was clear and vibrant with the moon and with the stars glittering like fine dust. Then she saw the footprints heading towards the lake in the middle of the woods. Sophie quickly walked fast to catch up and then what she saw made her gasp.
Sophie saw a ship that was only visible to her eyes. The ship is coated in gold and was ready to sail with different magical creatures walking into the ship. Sophie realized that it was the magical creatures who had the footprints she followed. All magical creatures of different sizes and species were on the ship. Looking at the ship sail away, it was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen.
A cricket chirped beside her which snapped her back to her reality and she realized she had left home for quite some time. she quickly went home so Angelina would not notice she left home. Sophie ran back with her heart dancing with extreme happiness.
