The ink-well fiction prompt 101/ THE AID.

The pupils laughed at her again As she struggled to see what was passed to her on a sheet of paper.

Her poor vision has been a thing of mockery.

What amazes them is how well she can see something written on the board but yet struggle to see that which is close to her.

Ella has been battling with the short-sighted vision she can read things from afar but finds it difficult to read the ones close to her.

But that is not the problem with Ella. She has refused to use glasses in respect of her disability; she never believed in glasses; all effort by her parents to convince her has proved abortive as she bluntly refuses to use even the one prescribed to her by the family doctor.

Ella has always come with bad results at home, she always wonders why she will always fail her exams as she knew how well she answered her questions.

No, not again Ella, her mum complained as she presented her third term result and her promotion to the next class was on trial. You are brilliant and you can do better than you are doing, her mum said to her. Ella all you need is an aid to support your vision and that's all.

Trust me with this aid you will be able to do better than this. Her mum could see the dismay on her face when she spoke about her vision but the mum understands that she doesn't like it.

But then her mum continued, would you rather prefer to be blind? No Ella replied quickly.

Ok then you have to thank God for your state of vision. The blind will desire to have a blur vision and use glasses to support it and you have good sight already just short-sightedness. We know you are capable but if you continue deceiving yourself then you will not be helping yourself.

She looked at her mother as the unending words came from her. With a smile, she said to her mother I will try my best next time.

Yes, you will but your best can only yield a better result if your visual aid is put into consideration.

The words seem to strike Ella so hard that she couldn't help but agree with her mother. , Ok mum, she replied.

And this single decision was the turning point for Ella.

Sometimes all you need to do is do the right thing And you will get things right.
