Broken//The Inkwell Writing Prompt

Julie, a final year student sat at the end of the desk dazed on what to write. She had tried to read through the biology textbook a night before the exam but couldn't comprehend what she read.

"I hate biology," she said to her friend from another faculty.

"I advise you to ask Kunle to help you, I was told he's good at biology," Bisi, Julie's friend, said.

"It's just two days to the exams, I can't bear to fail" Julie said, tensed from the information she has heard about students who fail in their final year. You'll spill over and that means an extra year the vice chancellor always reminds them.

Two days passed and Julie could understand just a few from what kunle had taught her. Gradually she started to lose confidence in herself each time she reminisced on what the vice chancellor said.

"I can't write this exams on my own" Julie told Bisi

"Why?, I thought Kunle taught you some areas you're confused about," Bisi replied.

"Yes, but I understood just little from the whole note" she said pacing around the corner of the room

"Just write what you can, let's hope you will be favored by the lecturer" Bisi encouraged.

Julie sat on her seat feeling tense, looking around each minute as if checking on someone. 30 minutes into the exams Julie had not written anything, the idea of failing and repeating another year scared her. She withdrew a paper from her pocket with answers to questions written on it. She jerked in fear each time she noticed the supervisor walking toward her. It was just a few minutes to the end of the exams when the security man caught her holding the piece of paper with answers on it.

"Give me the paper" the security man said standing beside her. Julie's hands started to shiver, "please sir" she said in a low tone, "this is my first time, I promise I'll throw it away" before the security man could respond, the supervisor noticed her and called her out.

"Fill the malpractice form over there" the supervisor said pointing at the direction of the table.

She kept her head low as she walked toward the table feeling embarrassed, tears started to form in her eyes and could look at Kunle who was sitting beside the table. She regretted trying to steal instead of writing the few that she knew, all because of the fear of failing and here she was in a worse scenario.

"I'm supposed to rusticate you from the school, but we discussed with the council and decided to give you another chance for next year" the chairman of the committee said. Even though she was happy to have been given a lesser punishment, she was disrupted in composure for what she did.
