A thriller that has within its plot important themes: police abuse and brutality with racial tensions in today's Denmark. Two hateful cops cornered in a conflict zone do everything they can to save their lives. I enjoyed the suffering of these two unfortunates.

The original title of the film is Shorta and at the beginning it is explained to us that it is a word used in the street slang of Arab immigrants living in Denmark, to refer to policemen.
Hatred is latent between the two sides. The criminals, who in this case, are descendants of immigrants from different Islamic countries, as well as the forces of law and order, mostly rough and muscular men who use racist expressions and excessive use of force.
I was delighted to see a side that is rarely shown in films from that country. In the part of the world where I live, we get a lot of positive information about the Nordic countries, which makes us think that everything is a paradise and that there are no problems of this kind.
Like everything in the countries of the world, corruption, abuse of power and especially of police forces, is a reality. Whether it is the poorest country in the world, or the richest and most civilized. Police officers are hated by all those who have been victims of their oppressive practices.
So, even though this movie is set in a country and culture very different from my own, I enjoyed it very much, because its two main characters are two abusive cops who must run like chickens, to save their lives when they find themselves unsupported and helpless.
All those who presume bravery, shielding themselves with a uniform and a gun, when they no longer have any of the elements that give them authority and are surprised by a mob eager for justice, all they have left to do is run away.
Is the police in Denmark like the one depicted in the film?
I don't know, because I'm not from that country. Maybe the movie exaggerates a bit, because I have read many positive articles about that nation's police. But you can google information and find some articles about different types of abuses that have been reported. título original del film es Shorta y al inicio se nos explica que es una palabra usada en el argot callejero de los inmigrantes árabes que viven en Dinamarca, para referirse a los policías.
El odio es latente entre ambas partes. Los criminales que en este caso, son descendientes de inmigrantes de diferentes países islámicos, como de las fuerzas de la ley, la mayoría hombres rudos, musculosos que usan expresiones racistas y hacen un uso excesivo de la fuerza.
Me ha encantado ver un lado que pocas veces se muestran en las películas de ese país. En la parte del mundo en donde yo vivo, nos llega mucha información positiva sobre los países nórdicos, eso nos hace pensar que todo es un paraíso y no hay problemas de este tipo.
Como todo en los países del mundo, la corrupción, el abuso de poder y especialmente de los cuerpos policiales, es una realidad. Ya sea el país más pobre del mundo, o el más rico y civilizado. Los policías son odiados por todos aquellos que han sido víctimas de sus prácticas opresivas.
Por eso, este film aunque está ambientado en país y cultura muy diferente al mío, lo he disfrutado mucho, porque sus dos personajes principales son dos policías abusadores que deben correr como gallinas, para salvar sus vidas cuando se ven sin apoyo e indefensos.
Todos los que presumen de valentía, escudándose detrás de un uniforme y una arma, cuando ya no tiene ninguno de los elementos que le otorgan autoridad y se ven atrapados por una turba deseosa de hacer justicia, solo les queda huir.

What is the plot of Shorta?
Jens Høyer is a policeman who goes to fulfill his work routine patrolling the streets, his boss assigns him for that day as a partner Mike Andersen, a violent cop who talks too much and seems to hate the whole world. A day earlier, a young Muslim man named Talib Ben Hassi was badly beaten by the police and is hospitalized on the verge of death. This has created a climate of tension in the city, especially in the Svalegarden neighborhood, where most of the Muslim immigrants live. The patrol is ordered to stay away from that neighborhood, but Mikel and Jens start following a car with a known drug dealer. They enter the neighborhood and Mikel abuses his power to arrest a young man whose mistake was just looking at them. In a matter of minutes everything will change, they will be attacked and the protests in the streets will intensify. Both policemen will find themselves trapped in a danger zone and will have to do everything they can to survive. Will they manage to escape from the neighborhood? What will happen to the detained young man? Will both policemen remain united or will conflicts arise between them? Do they have any hope of getting out alive? Or does certain death await them?

My impressions and opinion about the film.
In the style of American thrillers, the screenplay written and directed by Anders Ølholm and Frederik Louis Hviid introduces us to a day on patrol of two policemen, in the middle of the beginning of a wave of demonstrations because a young minor has been brutally beaten by the police and it seems that he may die at any moment.
The personalities of the two policemen are completely different. Jens is calmer and seems to have a bit of humanity, although he was there the night the Muslim boy was beaten and knows the whole truth. But like all members of that kind of agency, they protect each other, he doesn't say anything.
Mike is the typical loudmouth, gossipy, violent cop we have seen in many similar movies. He is a nasty character. I hated him immediately, he represents everything I hate about thugs who put on a police uniform to subdue the helpless. He makes racist comments and seems to be full of hate, that's why he uses his power to abuse the weak.
His character is the perfect psychopath. Although in one part of the movie we have some scenes that want to humanize him, it is impossible to feel sympathy for this man who instead of protecting what he does is to use his authority to abuse.
Racial conflict and police abuse are the two topical issues that the film uses to develop its story, but don't expect the film to delve into them. This is a police thriller, the central theme of which is the survival of the two policemen in a hostile environment.
Jens and Mikel find themselves trapped, without backup, in a sprawling neighborhood inhabited by immigrants who have been constantly oppressed by them. Now they will not be safe anywhere. They must hide, run and stay alive until they reach a point where they can be rescued.

Al estilo de los thriller americanos, el guion escrito y dirigido por Anders Ølholm y Frederik Louis Hviid nos introduce en un día de patrullaje de dos policías, en medio del comienzo de una ola de manifestaciones porque un joven menor de edad ha sido brutalmente golpeado por la policía y parece que puede morir en cualquier momento.
Las personalidades de ambos policías son completamente diferentes. Jens es más callado y parece tener un poco de humanidad, aunque él estuvo la noche que golpearon al chico musulmán y sabe toda la verdad. Pero como todos los miembros de ese tipo de organismo, se protegen entre ellos y no dice nada.
Mike es el típico policía bocazas, bromista y violento que hemos visto en muchos films similares. Es un personaje desagradable. Yo lo odie de inmediato, representa todo lo que odio de los abusadores que usan un uniforme policial para someter a los indefensos. Hace comentarios racistas y parece estar lleno de odio, por eso usa su poder para abusar de los débiles.
El personaje es el perfecto psicópata. Aunque en una parte del film nos metan unas escenas que quieran humanizarlo, es imposible sentir simpatía por este hombre que en vez de proteger lo que hace es usar su autoridad para abusar.
El conflicto racial y el abuso policial son los dos temas de actualidad que usa el film para desarrollar su historia, pero no esperen que la película profundice en ellos. Esto es un Thriller policial, cuyo eje central es la supervivencia de los dos policías en un entorno hostil.
Jens y Mikel quedaran atrapados, sin refuerzos, en extenso barrio donde viven inmigrantes que han sido constantemente oprimidos por ellos. Ahora no estarán a salvo en ninguna parte. Deben esconderse, correr y mantenerse con vida hasta lograr llegar a un punto donde pueden ser rescatados.
Two nasty beings running for their lives. It's exciting because we don't know how they are going to manage to escape from that place. Plus, I was really looking forward to them getting caught and experiencing the humiliation and torture first hand.
The movie hooked me right away, because I love this genre and the filmmakers give the story a good pace. We are kept in constant motion, the dangers are increasing and the tension, due to the protests, builds up to the climax of the story.
What can I criticize negatively?
That they prefer to focus everything on an action-survival thriller and do not explore the problem of racial minorities in Denmark and the conflicts with the police. Both issues are present, but only as part of the landscape, of the context in which the adventure of the two protagonists moves.
The marked division between good guys and bad guys, makes some characters fall into stereotypes that I have seen in other films of the genre. The filmmakers also want to force us to feel sympathy for some characters, that bothered me a little, I don't like that the script wants to push me abruptly to that point.
But those two details do not affect when it comes to giving it an excellent rating, because it is a film that more than fulfills in making us feel the tension and danger that the two policemen live.
The movie is from last year, but it was only a few days ago that I found it by chance. I think it is a great movie.
Dos seres desagradables corriendo por sus vidas. Es emocionante porque no sabemos cómo van a lograr escapar de ese lugar. Además, que yo tenía muchas ganas de que fueran atrapados y vivieran en carne propia el ser humillado y torturado.
La película me engancho de inmediato, porque adoro este género y los cineastas le imprimen un buen ritmo a la historia. Nos mantenemos en constante movimiento, los peligros son cada vez mayores y la tensión, por las protestas, va creciendo hasta llegar al clímax de la historia.
¿Qué le puedo criticar de forma negativa?
Que prefieren enfocar todo en un thriller de acción y supervivencia y no exploran el problema de las minorías raciales en Dinamarca y los conflictos con la policía. Ambos temas están presentes, pero solo como parte del paisaje, el contexto en donde se mueve la aventura de los dos protagonistas.
La marcada división entre buenos y malos, hace que algunos personajes caigan en los estereotipos que he visto en otros films del género. Los cineastas también quieren forzarnos a sentir simpatía por algunos personajes, eso me molesto un poco, no me gusta que el guion quiera empujarme a ese punto.
Pero esos dos detalles no afectan en darle una excelente valoración, porque es un film que cumple de sobra en hacernos sentir la tensión y el peligro que viven los dos policías.
La película es del año pasado, pero fue hace unos días que la encontré de casualidad. Me parece un gran film.
Who directed?
Anders Ølholm and Frederik Louis Hviid wrote the script and directed the film. I didn't know anything about these filmmakers. Checking their profiles on IMDB I see that Anders is the one with the longest track record as a screenwriter of several films in his country. Now, together with Frederik they make their debut directing feature films. They previously made a short film together. I think it's a great debut, strong and good. I think these two Danish film men are going to surprise us in the future. With Shorte they prove that they are very talented as directors. Write down their names and keep an eye out for their future work.
The cinematography is by cinematographer Jacob Møller, who has been nominated several times for the Robert Award (the Danish Oscar), and the film's soundtrack was composed by the young Martin Dirkov. The film won two awards at the last Robert Award: Best Sound Design by Morten Green and Best Supporting Actress for actress özlem Sağlanmak.
I want to highlight the work of Martin Dirkov in the composition of the soundtrack of the film, some musical notes that transmit all that energy and tension that overflows the whole film. Revisando sus perfiles en IMDB veo que Anders es quien tiene mayor trayectoria como guionista de varias películas de su país. Ahora, junto a Frederik hacen su debut dirigiendo largometrajes. Anteriormente hicieron juntos un cortometraje. Me parece un debut cojonudo, fuerte y bueno. Creo que estos dos hombres del cine Danes nos van a sorprender en el futuro. Con Shorte demuestran que tienen un gran talento como directores. Anoten sus nombres y estén atentos a futuros trabajos.
La dirección de fotografía es del cineasta Jacob Møller que ha estado nominado en varias ocasiones al Robert Award ( el Oscar Danes) y la banda sonora del film la compuso el joven Martin Dirkov. La película obtuvo dos premios en la ultima edición del Robert Award: el de mejor diseño de sonido a cargo de Morten Green y el de Mejor Actriz de Reparto para la actriz özlem Sağlanmak.
Quiero destacar el trabajo de Martin Dirkov al componer la banda sonora del film, unas notas musicales qu transmiten toda esa energía y tensión que se desborda durante todo el metraje. Jacob Lohmann plays Mike Anderson. That human beast whose imposing presence conveys violence and hatred. He is an abusive cop who seems to enjoy when he uses his authority and power against the weakest. Impossible to feel sympathy for him, I hate him from the first minute. He is a well known actor in his country, I remember seeing him in the movie The Unfaithful Queen and I think he works in Riders of Justice, a movie I haven't seen yet.
Jacob Lohmann interpreta a Mike Anderson. Esa bestia humana que su imponente presencia transmite violencia y odio. Es un policía abusador que parece disfrutar cuando usa su autoridad y poder contra los más débiles. Imposible sentir simpatía por él, yo lo odio desde el primer minuto. Es una actor muy conocido en su país, yo recuerdo que lo vi en el film La reina Infiel y creo que trabaja en Riders of Justice, película que tengo pendiente ver.
Simon Sears plays Jens. He is a more controlled cop, but he knows about the abuses of his colleagues and keeps quiet. He is an accomplice. His way of being is opposite to Mikel's and that will cause them to clash at one point. Maybe you can feel a little sympathy for him, but in the end you end up hating him. The actor has worked in some Danish movies and series, but he is not as famous as his partner.
Simon Sears interpreta a Jens. Es un policía mas controlado, pero sabe de los abusos de sus compañeros y guarda silencio. Es Cómplice. Su forma de ser es opuesto a Mikel y eso los hará enfrentarse en determinado momento. Quizás se puede sentir un poco de simpatía por él, pero al final termine odiándolo. El actor ha trabajado en algunas películas y series danesas, pero no es tan famoso como su compañero.
A film that I highly recommend. You will enjoy it from beginning to end. An intense, thrilling and violent thriller with two abusive cops living hell in a neighborhood full of people who want to find them to kill them. I loved the story and the characters.
Una película que se las recomiendo. La disfrutaran de principio a fin. Un thriller intenso, emocionante, violento con dos policías abusadores viviendo un infierno en un barrio lleno de personas que quieren encontrarlos para matarlos. Me encanto la historia y los personajes.
