Anytime I come to remember how life has emerged, I wonder what it would have been if we were still in 17th to 18th century Africa. Time and chance are the sequences for which change can be upheld or affected. Have you ever wondered how life could have been if you and I were still wearing leaves as clothes. Yeah! Just take a view in your mind if you were to leave the comfort of your home, adorned in some cocoyam leaves or something. One could even ask you to choose your best appearance only with leaves.
Better still, you may want to live in that time when there was no electricity. Many of us would have still weathered it. We would have gotten used to sleeping in darkness by putting on our oil lamps. Probably, most of you reading through this piece have never heard of what is called an oil lamp. A lamp or lantern may not be off your memories.
Today, we have cozy mattresses and duvets to protect our bodies from the cold. Back in the day, you would rather sleep on a handmade bed of hardwood or bamboo trees. Those were the luxuries some people used to enjoy that this generation may consider primitive.
My experience today gave me an entirely different view of life. Before now, I had never thought I could try eating some kind of food with my bare hands. Like every other workday, I woke up and prepared for work as my wife made for the kitchen to fix me breakfast and lunch, all packed in my food box. Since it is Monday, there will definitely be very high traffic, so one has to leave home in time else, one will be held down by the traffic.
As early as 5:30 am, I left home to join a commercial bus to Lagos from Ibadan. I knew it would be a tug of war but that isn't the best I can do. Soon as the bus moved, the driver switched on his car radio and the news came in. It was about the presidential election tribunal. The comments from callers who were following the discussion were so funny.
One of the callers said:
Oga, forget it. Nothing will come out of the tribunal. It would be just like that of #endsars
At this juncture. I was hungry but the radio program was quite interesting. Another caller suggested:
No election tribunal ever staged in the history of this country has produced another result. This won't be different.
Many Nigerians are undoubtedly looking for the birth of a new country and their hopes hang on the outcome of this presidential election tribunal.
I didn't know how that radio program ended because of a rowdy session we ran into as we approached Lagos.
As I arrived at the office, only one of my colleagues had resumed. Then, I remember that I was hungry and fetched my food flask from my food bag only to discover that there was no spoon to eat the food. Just then, I called my only colleague in the office and asked to borrow her spoon only for her to tell me she forgot hers too.
Use your naturally provided spoon.
She mentioned as she raised her hands and explained that I could eat my food with my bare hands. You know, I could not withstand hunger. Quickly, I rushed to the washing hand basin, used the liquid soap and washed my hands thoroughly and then started to munch my sweet jollof rice and fried plantain.
This was how I learned to use my hand in place of S.P.O.O.N. It is a natural something. You sure wanna try it now. I see you articulating how to use the your S.P.O.O.N Natural.
