Hola amigos mochileros, excursionistas y turistas, como están? nuevamente estoy por aquí para compartir con ustedes, mis experiencias y turismo en el viaje a Colombia, la verdad es que aun me quedan un par de historias mas, sin embargo siento que fue muy poco para el tiempo que estuve en esas ciudades. Pero bueno esta vez, quiero compartibles un poco de mi visita a la ciudad de Pereira apodada "La Perla del Otún", o
"La Perla Colombiana", ambos apodos se debe a que esta ciudad ha crecido mucho estos últimos años, en cuanto a edificaciones y desarrollo, además de eso sus atardeceres son mágicos donde el cielo se torna de color naranja o rojizo al caer la tarde. Otros dicen que es la ciudad que "Amaña" que básicamente te atrapa y no te deja irte por su clima, la calidez de sus personas, por los paisajes al rededor y muchas cosas, y una ultima historia que escuche que se le dice así por que el rio Otún atraviesa la ciudad y es un decir de los antiguos pobladores.
En mi recorrido por este lugar solo conocí parte del centro, la UTP (Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira) una de las mas grandes de la Región incluso del país, ya que es un campus completo al estilo de las universidades de Estados Unidos, y también me monte en el metro cable que lleva a las comunas.
Quisiera haber conocido un poco mas de este hermoso lugar, pero la verdad es que mis destinos fueron mas hacia la naturaleza, cascadas, bosques, etc., creo que la próxima vez será para recorrer esta ciudad.

Hi friends backpackers, hikers and tourists, how are you? I'm here again to share with you my experiences and tourism in my trip to Colombia, the truth is that I still have a couple more stories, but I feel it was too little for the time I spent in those cities. But this time, I want to share with you a little bit of my visit to the city of Pereira nicknamed "La Perla del Otún", or "La Perla Colombiana".
"Both nicknames are due to the fact that this city has grown a lot in recent years, in terms of buildings and development, besides that its sunsets are magical where the sky turns orange or reddish at dusk. Others say it is the city that "Amaña" that basically traps you and does not let you leave for its climate, the warmth of its people, the landscapes around and many things, and a last story I heard that it is so called because the Otún River runs through the city and is a saying of the ancient settlers.
In my tour of this place I only knew part of the center, the UTP (Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira) one of the largest in the region and even the country, as it is a complete campus in the style of U.S. universities, and I also rode the metro cable that leads to the communes.
I would have liked to know a little more of this beautiful place, but the truth is that my destinations were more towards nature, waterfalls, forests, etc., I think the next time will be to visit this city.
Bueno amigos, mi recorrido comenzara en el Jardin Botánico de Pereira, un lugar muy bonito ya que es un bosque protegido donde tienen colección de especies del país y del continente como tal, especies de arboles, hierbas y arbustos autóctonas y otras introducidas, este es un ecosistema donde no se interfiere en las asociaciones planta-hongo, animales-plantas, insectos-plantas, básicamente nuestro recorrido es corto y breve de manera de no perturbar tanto la naturaleza. El bosque o jardín tiene 13 hectáreas protegidas, por lo cual es amplio para caminar, esta en el centro de la ciudad por lo cual al subirme en el metro cable observe que no hay mas vegetación al rededor.
Par ingresar aquí debemos caminar por la universidad, pasar por algunas facultades, incluso por la biblioteca y podemos llegar a la entrada, donde el costo por persona es de 20.000 pesos colombianos para extranjeros (aproximadamente 5$), 15.000 pesos para ciudadanos de Colombia (3.75$) y para estudiantes de la UTP es gratis.
Cabe resaltar que mi guía era una compañera de trabajo del restaurante de mis primos, que estudia aquí y se ofreció a llevarme, por que sinceramente me hacia mucha ilusión visitar este lugar como bien estudiante de Ingeniera agronómica. Ella jamás había entrado a este lugar y pues hizo el plan para que lo conociera.
Entramos a las instalaciones de la universidad y atravesamos las áreas de deporte, canchas de voleibol, futbol, campos de grama artificial, gimnasios hasta llegar a la facultad de Ciencias Ambientales(que es algo parecido a lo que estudio, un poco similar para nada igual), en esta facultad se enfocan en las ciencias y en mi universidad por ejemplo en la ingeniera aplicada al campo. En las paredes podemos ver propaganda política, murales de una persona que falleció aquí en las protestas, propaganda de apoyo a la universidad y los edificas de las facultades están distribuidos muy bien aunque uno alejado del otro, la biblioteca es muy linda y avanzada, cuenta con sala de computación muy bonita, hay murales de arte, aves y plantas en esta facultad. Además de su laboratorio de bioquímica que esta espectacular, los avisos de las aulas están en ingles y español.
Well friends, my tour will begin in the Botanical Garden of Pereira, a very nice place because it is a protected forest where they have a collection of species of the country and the continent as such, species of trees, herbs and shrubs native and other introduced, this is an ecosystem where it does not interfere in the associations plant-fungus, animals-plants, insects-plants, basically our tour is short and brief so as not to disturb both nature. The forest or garden has 13 protected hectares, so it is wide to walk, it is in the center of the city so when I got on the metro cable I noticed that there is no more vegetation around.
To enter here we must walk through the university, pass through some faculties, including the library and we can get to the entrance, where the cost per person is 20,000 Colombian pesos for foreigners (approximately $ 5), 15,000 pesos for citizens of Colombia ($ 3.75) and for students of the UTP is free.
It is worth mentioning that my guide was a co-worker of my cousins' restaurant, who studies here and offered to take me, because honestly I was very excited to visit this place as a student of agronomic engineering. She had never been to this place and so she made the plan for me to get to know it.
We entered the university facilities and went through the sports areas, volleyball courts, soccer fields, artificial turf fields, gyms until we reached the faculty of Environmental Sciences (which is something similar to what I study, a little similar but not the same), in this faculty they focus on science and in my university for example in engineering applied to the field. On the walls we can see political propaganda, murals of a person who died here in the protests, propaganda in support of the university and the buildings of the faculties are distributed very well although one far from the other, the library is very nice and advanced, has a very nice computer room, there are murals of art, birds and plants in this faculty. In addition to its biochemistry laboratory which is spectacular, the classroom signs are in English and Spanish.

Al llegar a la entrada del Jardin ya se pueden ver las plantas exóticas, un área muy bonita y cuidada la verdad y están los avisos muy visibles par aquellos que jamás hayan entrado aquí como yo.
When you get to the entrance of the Garden you can already see the exotic plants, a very nice and well kept area and the signs are very visible for those who have never entered here like me.
Ya pagando la entrada al jardín tenemos el acceso, y la guía principal nos explica un poco sobre esto, sobre el vivero ornamental, sobre el vivero de cactus, y la colección de orquídeas que estaba cerrada. También nos habla un poco sobre las especies que se encuentran aquí, cuando se fundo el jardín y las pautas que debemos tener en cuenta, como por ejemplo seguir el sendero y siempre girar a la izquierda, ya que a la derecha nos regresamos.
Como el clima aquí es muy cambiante y estaríamos en un bosque, si comenzaba a llover fuerte podiamos regresar y comenzar el recorrido otro día, lo cual me pareció muy genial por que no perderíamos el dinero de la entrada.
Otra cosa genial es que el recorrido es guiado, pero antes de nosotros habían entrado 3 grupos y ya no habían disponibles, pero podiamos ingresar sin ellos y alcanzarlos en una estación si lo deseábamos. Aunque mi guía era estudiante de aquí (mi amiga Laura), no conocía nada con respecto a las plantas y yo iba explicándole en el camino lo poco que sabia, además que le recalcaba como era posible que tuvieran esta joya aquí y ella no había entrado nunca, cuando mis compañeros desearían tener un jardín botánico en nuestra universidad.
Y estando en el bosque por su puesto que la vista es genial, esta todo con mucha vegetación y el sol casi no se ve, es húmedo también además que el clima estaba con tiempo del lluvia. Lo primero que se ve es un bosque de Guaduas, familia del bambú y entre mas caminamos comenzamos a ver arboles, y hiervas ya con sus nombres científicos.
Once we have paid the entrance fee to the garden we have the access, and the main guide explains a little about it, about the ornamental nursery, about the cactus nursery, and the orchid collection that was closed. He also tells us a little about the species that are found here, when the garden was founded and the guidelines that we should keep in mind, such as following the path and always turn left, since we turn right and go back.
As the weather here is very changeable and we would be in a forest, if it started to rain heavily we could go back and start the tour another day, which I thought was great because we would not lose the entrance fee.
Another great thing is that the tour is guided, but before us 3 groups had entered and were no longer available, but we could enter without them and catch up with them at a station if we wished. Although my guide was a student here (my friend Laura), she didn't know anything about the plants and I was explaining to her on the way what little I knew, and I was stressing to her how it was possible that they had this jewel here and she had never entered, when my classmates would like to have a botanical garden in our university.
And being in the forest of course the view is great, it is all with lots of vegetation and the sun is almost not seen, it is also humid and the weather was with rainy weather. The first thing you see is a forest of Guaduas, bamboo family and the more we walk we begin to see trees and herbs and with their scientific names.
Para aquellos que no conocen sobre las familias botánicas yo recomendaría ir con el guía, por que sinceramente cada familia es distinta entonces el guía te menciona cuales son y que características tiene, por ejemplo la "Flor de mayo" es única por que solo florea en el mes de Mayo, el café son rubiáceas, son de la misma familia pero no de todos los arboles se puede usar el café.
Para mi era un espectáculo ver todo, por que ya había visto la forma de crecimiento de las hojas, la menara en que sale del primordio, tipos de raíces, si adventicias o principales, maneras de propagación como los rizomas entonces todo era un repaso en la practica de toda la teoría que ya sabia. Incluso yo le explicaba a Laura como se originaron las planta o evolucionaron, pteridofitas, las plantas inferiores como los helechos, aquellas con flores y sin flores y un poco mas adelante encontramos un poster donde explicaba lo mismo. Me sentí alegre por si han dado frutos mis 2 años en la universidad.
For those who do not know about the botanical families I would recommend going with the guide, because honestly each family is different so the guide tells you what they are and what characteristics they have, for example the "Flor de mayo" is unique because it only blooms in the month of May, the coffee are rubiaceae, they are of the same family but not all trees can be used coffee.
For me it was a spectacle to see everything, because I had already seen the way the leaves grow, the way they come out of the primordium, types of roots, whether adventitious or main, ways of propagation such as rhizomes, so everything was a review in practice of all the theory I already knew. I was even explaining to Laura how plants originated or evolved, pteridophytes, the lower plants like ferns, those with flowers and without flowers and a little further on we found a poster explaining the same. I felt happy that my 2 years at the university had paid off.
Unos minutos después de iniciar la caminata encantamos al guía con un grupo de personas, casualmente tenia nuestra edad y recién graduado, una persona realmente agradable, nos integramos a su grupo y terminamos el recorrido con ellos, el nos explico un poco acerca de la fauna de aves que había en la zona, insectos y nos llevo a distintas áreas como en el humedal, lugar donde se almacena el agua que el bosque utiliza cuando no llueve. Además de eso nos hablo sobre especies como la guadua o coca de monte (de donde se extrae la cocina), nos explico que sin los procesos químicos se utiliza como energizante masticando la hoja.
También nos hablo sobre las magnolias y algunas flores que habían en este lugar, así como también los grupos de hongos.
Con el finalizamos el recorrido, llovió un poco, pero no mucho y salimos del lugar.

A few minutes after starting the walk we enchanted the guide with a group of people, he happened to be our age and recently graduated, a really nice person, we joined his group and finished the tour with them, he explained a little about the fauna of birds that were in the area, insects and took us to different areas such as the wetland, a place where water is stored that the forest uses when it does not rain. Besides that he told us about species such as guadua or coca de monte (from where the cooking is extracted), he explained that without chemical processes it is used as an energizer by chewing the leaf.
He also told us about the magnolias and some flowers that were in this place, as well as the groups of mushrooms.
With him we finished the tour, it rained a little, but not much and we left the place.

Ahora es momento del metro cable, saliendo de la UTP, se encuentra la estación Universidad, esta es la 3era estación si no me equivoco del recorrido desde las comunas hacia el centro de Pereira. Solo puedo decir que iba muy feliz hasta que me monte y las puertas se cerraron, la sensación fue horrible para mi, el vértigo, la cabina se movía por el viento, y cuando bajaba en las torres hacia ruidos muy fuertes, incluso se detuvo por unos segundos. Yo miraba hacia abajo y lo primero que pensaba es que la caída era larga, incluso le dije a Laura "Te odiooo", y las personas se reían, intentaron conservar conmigo para distraerme pero me daba mucho miedo. Subimos hasta la ultima estación de la comuna y regresamos, aquí tardamos un poco mas de 30-40 min en todo el camino.
Creo que el precio del metro cable es de 2000 pesos (0.50$), y muchas personas lo utilizan pro que es mas rápido que ir en bus, se evita el trafico y todo lo relacionado, pero no es apto para personas que sufren de vértigo.
La experiencia es única pero no quiero repetirla de nuevo jaja.
Now it's time for the metro cable, leaving the UTP, is the Universidad station, this is the 3rd station if I'm not mistaken of the route from the communes to the center of Pereira. I can only say that I was very happy until I got on and the doors closed, the feeling was horrible for me, the vertigo, the cabin moved by the wind, and when I went down in the towers made very loud noises, even stopped for a few seconds. I was looking down and the first thing I thought was that the fall was long, I even said to Laura "I hate you", and people laughed, they tried to keep me to distract me but I was very scared. We went up to the last station of the commune and back, here it took a little more than 30-40 min all the way.
I think the price of the metro cable is 2000 pesos (0.50$), and many people use it because it is faster than going by bus, it avoids traffic and everything related, but it is not suitable for people who suffer from vertigo.
The experience is unique but I don't want to repeat it again haha.

Y un pequeño recorrido por las calles y algunos centros comerciales, para esto fui en otra ocasión con mi prima y mi tía, que decidieron llevarme a conocer Pereira, la verdad es que el cambio desde Santa Rosa hacia acá se nota, la cantidad de personas, el trafico, el clima, el desarrollo todo es muy bonito, por eso Pereira es la capital de Risaralda. De verdad que las personas son muy amables, incluso los vendedores de calle, compre un "salpicón" que s lo mismo que en mi país llamado "Tizana", y el señor muy amable me explico cual era la diferencia al nuestro.
Por su puesto quería ir a la catedral ya a otros lugares pero se nos hizo muy tarde para ello, caminamos un poco, entramos al "super éxito", que es una tienda gigante que antes existía en mis país.
Comprobé lo de los atardeceres naranja, aunque no son muy pronunciados si se logran apreciar.

Of course I wanted to go to the cathedral and other places but we were too late for that, we walked a little, we entered the "super success", which is a giant store that used to exist in my country.
I checked the orange sunsets, although they are not very pronounced if they can be appreciated.
Y con esto finalizo la experiencia, resumí al máximo todas las fotos que tenia y un poco sobre lo que hice en las actividades, la verdad una ciudad muy bonita que me gusto mucho, al igual que Manizales.
