Medieval fortress Ovech near the town of Provadia (Bulgaria🇧🇬)

Hello friends :) In the summer at the end of July, returning from a sea vacation, my friends and I decided to make an impromptu trip to a very interesting and impressive place. It is about the Ovech fortress, near the town of Provadia in Bulgaria. Our way home goes through Provadia, and we decided that this is the perfect time to stop for a 2 hours and visit this unique place.

Ovech Fortress is a stone fortress, which is located next to the town of Provadia. Provadians Fortress was built on the majestic plateau east of the town, known as Kaleto.
The fortress is known by several names. The oldest of them is Byzantine - Provat. The Bulgarians call it Ovech, and the Turks - Tash Hisar (stone fortress)
Its unique location and natural features make it difficult to conquer and a here is safe haven against enemies and invaders. The fortress is protected by rocks with a height of 10 to 20 meters. A narrow rocky isthmus connects it with the neighboring plateau - Tabiite.

We arrive around 16:00 in the afternoon. The fortress has three entrances. We use the east entrance because it is convenient and accessible by car on a forest road .

The eastern entrance is preserved in its authentic vision with stone stairs carved into the rock.

In the central part of the plateau there are remains of the foundations of three churches, one of which is the Metropolitan Church. Remains of streets, buildings, living quarters, two towers and water wells can also be seen, one of which is 80 meters deep.

At the western entrance, which is located from the side of town of Provadia, a modern metal spiral staircase is built. From here you can also climb the plateau for a few minutes.

From here there is a magnificent picturesque panoramic view of the city.

From here, we head to the northern entrance of the fortress, which is also the main entrance. In front of it is a bridge structure with a length of 150 m, which connects the fortress with the neighboring plateau Tabiite.

These wooden structures did not inspire confidence in us, and we did not dare to go to the neighboring plateau.
Since the bridge looked quite scary and high, we decided to stop our tour here.

So, we went back to the east entrance, where we went down the stairs to our car, and we have us about 5 hours of travel home.

In 2008 Ovech was declared an cultural monument of national importance.

I hope you enjoyed my virtual walk. I wish everyone a light and successful day!
