Visiting the ruins of Carora, Venezuela. [ESP

Esta es mi primera publicación del año y no me gustaría comenzar sin antes desear un feliz y próspero año nuevo a todos. Deseo que sea este el año donde vean materializado todo por lo que han trabajado.

Entre tantas cosas de las que me gustaría hablar, quiero comenzar este año hablando de Carora, Lara. Un pequeño pueblo ubicado en Venezuela.

This is my first post of the year and I would not like to start without wishing everyone a happy and prosperous new year. I wish that this year you could see materialized everything you have worked for.
Among so many things I would like to talk about, I want to start this year talking about Carora, Lara, a small town located in Venezuela.

Después de casi dos años viviendo en Carora, finalmente conocí las famosas ruinas de La Pastora, el vestigio de lo que solía ser la iglesia del mismo nombre, construida alrededor de 1770. Su atractivo se debe a que, pese a sufrir varias inundaciones, aún se mantiene su fachada, en la que se aprecia el característico estilo barroco que hace de esta estructura una bella atracción turística que enorgullece a los caroreños. Fue declarado monumento nacional en 1960, es por esto que en la entrada al pueblo hay una replica de la misma.

After almost two years living in Carora, I finally got to know the famous ruins of La Pastora, the vestige of what used to be the church of the same name, built around 1770. Its attractiveness is due to the fact that, in spite of suffering several floods, its façade still remains, in which the characteristic baroque style can be appreciated, making this structure a beautiful tourist attraction that makes the people of Carora proud. It was declared national monument in 1960, which is why there is a replica of it at the entrance to the town.

Además de este monumento, también cuenta con otros atractivos como su zona colonial. Un sector del municipio que conserva aún sus casas con fachadas coloniales, naturalmente se han hecho modificaciones internas para poder enfrentar el paso de los años, pero algunas se mantienen bastante bien con pocas variaciones en su estructura. Estas son habitadas por los descendientes de los primeros dueños, familias que vivieron ahí desde hace, por lo menos, 200 años. Como dato curioso, una de las casas de la zona tiene una placa con una inscripción que reza que ahí se hospedó Simón Bolívar por tres días.

In addition to this monument, it also has other attractions such as its colonial area. A sector of the municipality that still preserves its houses with colonial façades, naturally internal modifications have been made to be able to face the passing of the years, but some are maintained quite well with few variations in its structure. These are inhabited by the descendants of the first owners, families who lived there for at least 200 years. As a curious fact, one of the houses in the area has a plaque with an inscription that says that Simon Bolivar stayed there for three days.

Carora es un pueblo acogedor, con gente muy cálida y orgullosa de sus raíces. Es la cuna de grandes artistas, incluso en la entrada al lado del anuncio de Carora hay una escultura de Alirio Díaz, famoso guitarrista Larense. Su gastronomía también ha resultado atractiva para los visitantes, de hecho hay una canción que habla de ello: Menú de chivo. Aquí descubrí que hay mil formas de comer chivo y que ninguna de ellas me gusta, pero para quienes nacieron aquí es una costumbre desayunar todos los domingos, religiosamente, sopa de chivo. Por mi parte, prefiero la tostada caroreña, un plato típico que trae: arepas fritas, cerdo, caraotas (frijoles negros), plátano frito, queso, papas fritas, aguacate y ensalada. De postre opto por un dulce de paleta.

Carora is a welcoming town, with very warm people, proud of their roots. It is the cradle of great artists, even at the entrance next to the Carora sign there is a sculpture of Alirio Díaz, famous Larense guitarist. Its gastronomy has also been attractive for visitors, in fact there is a song that talks about it: goat menu. Here I discovered that there are a thousand ways to eat goat and that none of them I like, but for those who were born here it is a custom to have goat soup for breakfast every Sunday, religiously. For my part, I prefer the tostada caroreña, a typical dish that brings: fried arepas, pork, caraotas (black beans), fried plantain, cheese, french fries, avocado and salad. For dessert I opt for a dulce de paleta.

He podido conocer rincones hermosos rodando en bicicleta y he visto los más hermosos atardeceres en sus playas. No, en Carora no hay playas técnicamente (al menos de acuerdo con las acepciones más conocidas de la palabra) pero así le llaman acá a las grandes extensiones de tierra seca que se encuentran en las afueras de la ciudad. En estos lugares también se llevan a cabo competencias de ciclismo donde se ponen a prueba el carácter y la resistencia de los participantes porque el verdadero reto es soportar el inclemente y sofocante sol caroreño, enfrentarse a los fuertes vientos y sortear los cactus y sus tunas durante todo el recorrido.

I have been able to get to know beautiful places by bicycle and I have seen the most beautiful sunsets on its beaches. No, technically there are no beaches in Carora (at least according to the most known meanings of the word) but that's what they call here the large extensions of dry land on the outskirts of the city. In these places there are also cycling competitions where the character and endurance of the participants are put to the test because the real challenge is to endure the inclement and suffocating sun of Carora, to face the strong winds and to avoid the cactus and its prickly pears during the whole route.

Este es un pueblo especial y su gente más aún. Me ha maravillado con la belleza de su desierto y los arreboles de sus atardeceres, con sus chivos y vacas recorriendo las calles, con su verde tan vivo y con su cielo tan espectacular por las noches. Me queda pendiente visitar los viñedos de Bodegas Pomar y varios sitios de interés que sin duda quiero conocer.

This is a special town and its people even more so. It has amazed me with the beauty of its desert and the gleam of its sunsets, with its goats and cows roaming the streets, with its lively green and its spectacular sky at night. I have yet to visit the vineyards of Bodegas Pomar and several places of interest that I definitely want to know.
