Oslo - The Princess Ingrid Alexandra Sculpture Park | The park where children's creative ideas come to life

Hello, friends! Recently as you know we visited the capital of Norway - Oslo, where we will be here for a few days, but this city will conquer your heart even in such a short period of time! One of the places we planned to visit was this wonderful park with sculptures. At first look, it's nothing remarkable, but let's immerse ourselves in the history of this place.

At the entrance to the park, you can see a sign with a brief summary. It provides information about the park in two languages: English and Norwegian. And it is here that we learn that this park belongs to the Norwegian Princess Ingrid Alexandra. "The Princess Ingrid Alexandra Sculpture Park was created by children for children," the inscription reads, "The park consists of twelve sculptures designed by students from all over the country. The project was created as a regional competition."

This information is very useful for familiarization and I recommend reading it before entering the park. It also states that the park was opened by the princess on May 19, 2016, so the park is very new, and I think it will be filled with interesting sculptures.

Touristic Trick 😜

I also want to tell you about the location of this wonderful park. It is located three minutes from the Royal Palace. So keep in mind that you can immediately see both the palace and the princess park. For tourists staying for a short time in Oslo, this is a very good option.

Let's take a closer look at the sign. Here we also see photos with a short description. It shows the original drawings of the contestants, their title, who made them, and the city of origin. For example, the first photo, "Geometric Fox," was made by Sofia Sollid Jertsen in 2016. At the time, the pupil was in the 6th grade and lived in Troms, in the north of Norway. All twelve sculptures have such inscriptions.

So, let's get started! The first one, as you might have guessed, was the Geometric Fox. The sculpture is quite bright and attractive. For children visiting this park, it's a real treat to look at the fox, climb on top of it and smile sincerely into the lens of their parents' camera.

The next sculpture is "Rabbit in Distress" I think the title is exactly right for this sculpture! You can really see the childlike features in these chaotic brushstrokes.

The next and my favorite sculpture is an arms outstretched with a tree. Everyone can see their own meaning, but I saw "hope". Due to global climate issues, this sculpture emphasizes awareness and love for the environment. I think the perfect title for this sculpture is "It's all in your hands". Because, who else but us?

Next, we move on to a composition of blue cubes called "Strange Bench". Yes, you can combine beauty with utility and use the idea to improve the city. Why not?

Here, a bronze worm is peeking out of the ground. As I mentioned, the park is quite new and will be updated with new sculptures, as it happened with this worm. It was created in 2018, which is two years after the park was opened.

Next was this amazing creature consisting of legs and a mouth. And the name of this sculpture is no less amazing: "Mouth Bone". What can I say, the rich imagination of children is capable of great things, and this sculpture is a vivid example of this.

A little further away there is the "Rainbow Arch" and "Faceless Man". The sculptures are quite interesting and very popular with young visitors. Especially this green bird, which children love to look at.

The last three sculptures are "Tool", "Mitt mot" and "Pencil". To be honest, in "Tool" I saw a crochet hook decorated with a butterfly wing. Maybe it's really like that? But "Mitt mot" - it seemed to me like a strange person who, despite the difficulties, still smiles, and wide open eyes speak of observation. And the last sculpture "Pencil", in my opinion, is about solving complex problems. And no matter how thorny and "twisted" the path may be, there is always a solution and an end result.
