It doesn't matter how many times you've done this in the last while: the excitement of getting everything ready and going to explore a place for a while never diminishes. That's how it was when my friend and I had the idea of taking a trip to the south of Argentina, to go and enjoy one of the most beautiful and picturesque seasons of the year: autumn with all its golden, red and green trees. Although the city of Bariloche in the province of Río Negro is mainly a winter destination, it is a beautiful place at any time and traveling there is never a bad plan 😃.

Although the city of Bariloche in the province of Río Negro is mainly a winter destination, it is a beautiful place at any time and traveling there is never a bad plan 😃.
At this point in our lives, my friend and I are almost experts in finding cheap flights, suitable accommodation and activities to do without spending so much money. It is enough for us to choose a place, explore it a bit and specify the entire trip. We already had in mind that we wanted to go to the south, and in the days before buying the plane tickets, a discount offer called "Travel Sale" appeared in which the tickets cost even less than we thought, so we didn't even know it. we hesitate and buy them. We also purchased the annual membership of this airline, so we are already frequent flyers and we are making the most of it 😃.
A esta altura de nuestras vidas, mi amiga y yo ya somos casi expertas en encontrar vuelos baratos, alojamientos adecuados y actividades para hacer sin gastar tanto dinero. Solo nos basta con elegir un lugar, explorarlo un poco y concretar todo el viaje. Nosotras ya teníamos en mente que queríamos ir al sur, y en los días previos a comprar los pasajes de avión, surgió una oferta de descuentos llamada "Travel Sale" en la que los pasajes costaban aún menos de lo que creíamos, así que ni lo dudamos y los compramos. También adquirimos la membresía anual de esta aerolínea, así que ya somos pasajeras frecuentes y lo estamos aprovechando al máximo 😃.
We live on the outskirts of the City of Buenos Aires and the nearest mountain is about 600 km away, so getting away a bit to see other types of landscapes is always welcome. In particular, the city of Bariloche is 1,600 km from home and this plane ride lasts just an hour and a half. Since we started traveling by plane, fast and at a good price, it is always the best option: in April 2023 we paid 14,000 ARS (approximately 35 USD) for the round trip, while the same long-distance bus trip costs more than that only for a section and taking almost 24 hours. Truly incomparable but both transfers are enjoyed in their own way 😃.
Nosotros vivimos en los alrededores de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires y la montaña más cercana está como a 600 km, así que alejarnos un poco a ver otro tipo de paisajes siempre es bienvenido. En particular, la ciudad de Bariloche queda a 1600 km de casa y este recorrido en avión dura apenas una hora y media. Desde que empezamos a viajar en avión, rápido y a buen precio, siempre es la mejor opción: en Abril 2023 pagamos por la ida y vuelta 14.000 ARS (aproximadamente 35 USD), mientras que el mismo viaje en micro de larga distancia cuesta más que eso solo por un tramo y tardando casi 24 horas. Realmente incomparable pero ambos traslados se disfrutan a su manera 😃.
This was not the first time that my friend and I went to Bariloche: we had both already arrived in this city more than 10 years ago for our high school graduation trips and we also came with our families in the summer. But the exciting thing was that we were traveling completely alone for the first time and we only depended on ourselves. Luckily, this city has a very extensive tourist development and is prepared for that: if you want to move to the most important points of the place, there is public transport and the offer of accommodation is enormous and for all budgets, as well as gastronomy and excursions 😃.
Esta no era la primera vez que mi amiga y yo íbamos a Bariloche: ambas ya habíamos llegado a esta ciudad hace más de 10 años para nuestros viajes de egresados de escuela secundaria y también vinimos con nuestras familias en el verano. Pero lo emocionante era que estábamos viajando completamente solas por primera vez y solo dependíamos de nosotras. Por suerte, esta ciudad tiene un desarrollo turístico muy amplio y está preparada para eso: si deseas moverte a los puntos más importantes del lugar hay transporte público y la oferta de alojamientos es enorme y para todos los presupuestos, así como la gastronomía y las excursiones 😃.
What is beautiful about this city is expensive and it is something that is widely known throughout the country: the cost of living in the south is more expensive than in the province of Buenos Aires. Well, actually I think that in any other province everything is more expensive than in Buenos Aires and that is why we sometimes receive a little hate from our compatriots. To begin with, the bus ticket in Bariloche cost 250 ARS (0.65 USD) when in Buenos Aires it costs just 50 ARS (0.13 USD), and it's not even that salaries are higher here. In previous trips, we were paying around 4,000 ARS per night for a hostel and here they were 6,500 ARS (10 vs. 17 USD) and up, and not to mention the prices of eating in a restaurant: more than 3,500 ARS per plate. Be that as it may, I'm not complaining so much because once again I had the opportunity to travel and get to this beautiful place, saving and working a lot, but I was able to get there 😶.
Lo que tiene de lindo esta ciudad lo tiene de caro y es algo que es de público conocimiento en todo el país: el costo de vida en el sur es más caro que en la provincia de Buenos Aires. Bueno, en realidad creo que en cualquier otra provincia todo es más caro que en Buenos Aires y por eso a veces recibimos un poco de odio de nuestros compatriotas. Para empezar, el boleto del colectivo en Bariloche costaba 250 ARS (0,65 USD) cuando en Buenos Aires cuesta apenas 50 ARS (0,13 USD), y ni siquiera es que los sueldos son más altos acá. En viajes anteriores, estuvimos pagando por noche de hostel unos 4000 ARS y acá estaban de 6500 ARS (10 vs 17 USD) en adelante, y sin mencionar los precios de comer en restaurante: más de 3500 ARS por plato. Sea como sea, no me quejo tanto porque yo una vez más tuve la oportunidad de viajar y llegar hasta este lugar hermoso, ahorrando y trabajando bastante, pero pude llegar 😶.
Between the fact that we traveled by plane, then by bus to the center, we walked to our hostel and rested a bit, it was almost sunset time. We didn't want to miss that day of the trip, so we went for a little walk. Something we had doubts about was how cold it was going to be during those days: I bought a lot of coats because I get cold, but since the weather was mild on the way, I didn't wrap up enough. I thought I would bear it without problems with the clothes I brought from Buenos Aires and so we went for a walk along the waterfront of Lake Nahuel Huapi...
Entre que viajamos en avión, luego en colectivo hasta el centro, caminamos a nuestro hostel y descasamos un poco, ya casi era la hora del atardecer. No queríamos perdernos ese día del viaje, así que salimos a caminar un poco. Algo con lo que teníamos dudas era sobre el frío que iba a hacer durante esos días: yo me compré un montón de abrigos porque soy muy friolenta, pero como durante el camino el clima estaba templado, no me abrigué lo suficiente. Pensé que lo soportaría sin problemas con la ropa que traía desde Buenos Aires y así salimos a caminar un poco por la costanera del lago Nahuel Huapi...
But as the sun went down, we felt that the cold that the forecast mentioned was real. This was not going to prevent us from continuing to walk a bit, we had also brought our mate kit with very hot water and we thought we could save ourselves a bit with that 😅.
Pero a medida que el sol se fue ocultando, sentimos que el frío que mencionaba el pronóstico era real. Esto no iba a impedir que sigamos caminando un poco, además habíamos llevado nuestro equipo de mate con agua muy caliente y pensábamos salvarnos un poco con eso 😅.
I think that even without doing any excursion yet, the center of the city of Bariloche welcomes you with the beautiful immensity of its lake and its mountains. Just by going to sit on the waterfront to enjoy the landscape and the frozen breeze, it is already satisfying to say that the trip was worth it. Of all the times I came, only once was this landscape covered in snow and it was in 2011, so you can imagine that I have no recollection. Also, at the time I was a teenager and maybe I didn't attach as much importance to beautiful scenery as I would now, so I hope I can come back in the winter, or even anywhere where there is snow 😅.
Pienso que aún sin hacer ninguna excursión todavía, el centro de la ciudad de Bariloche te recibe con la hermosa inmensidad de su lago y sus montañas. Con solo ir a sentarte a la costanera a disfrutar del paisaje y de la brisa congelada, ya es satisfactorio como para decir que el viaje valió la pena. De todas las veces que vine, solo una vez este paisaje estuvo todo nevado y fue en el 2011, así que se imaginarán que no tengo ningún recuerdo. Además, en ese momento era adolescente y quizás no le daba tanta importancia a los paisajes hermosos como la que le daría ahora, así que espero poder volver en el invierno, o aunque sea, ir a cualquier lugar en el que haya nieve 😅.
But since you also have to focus on enjoying the present, at that moment I was grateful to be able to see such a beautiful sunset. These great places are the ones that make me think that everything is worth it and how lucky I was that things happened the way they did. The only thing I would have liked to have at that time would have been a little more warmth, but it wasn't that terrible either. Even the cold becomes secondary when you are surrounded by an immensity like that 😅.
Pero como también hay que enfocarse en disfrutar el presente, en ese momento estaba agradecida de poder estar viendo tan hermoso atardecer. Estos lugares geniales son los que me hacen pensar que todo vale la pena y en lo afortunada que fui de que las cosas se hayan dado como se dieron. Lo único que me hubiese gustado tener en ese momento hubiese sido un poco más de abrigo, pero tampoco era tan terrible. Hasta el frío pasa a ser secundario cuando estas rodeada de una inmensidad como esa 😅.
Another of the challenges that my friend and I had with this destination was finding things to do that we had not done before: since we had both been there before, we already knew the main tourist spots, so we wanted to do something that was not so "mainstream". Luckily, now the internet is full of recommendations from other travelers and we found several activities to do with the budget we had. We also met many people who were in charge of guiding us and suggesting good places to go for a walk. That is one of the most beautiful things that can happen on a trip, meeting people with the same adventurous taste as you ❣️.
Otro de los desafíos que mi amiga y yo tuvimos con este destino fue encontrar cosas para hacer que no hubiésemos hecho antes: como las dos ya habíamos estado ahí antes, los principales puntos turísticos ya los conocíamos, así que queríamos hacer algo que no fuera tan "mainstream". Por suerte, ahora internet está lleno de recomendaciones de otros viajeros y encontramos varias actividades para hacer con el presupuesto con el que contábamos. También conocimos muchas personas que se encargaron de guiarnos y sugerirnos buenos lugares para ir a pasear. Esa es una de las cosas más lindas que puede pasar en un viaje, encontrarte con gente con el mismo gusto aventurero que vos ❣️.
