En Cartagena- Colombia existen muchos monumentos y sitios históricos que hacen de esta ciudad un sitio turístico y de interés para todo aquel que lo visita.
Hoy quiero hablarles de un monumento que visitamos y de mucha importancia para los habitantes de Cartagena por su historia.

In Cartagena- Colombia there are many monuments and historical sites that make this city a tourist site and of interest to everyone who visits it.
Today I want to tell you about a monument that we visited and of great importance for the inhabitants of Cartagena because of its history.
The Catherine India Memorial
This monument is a tribute to "the Indian Catherine" as the title says. Legend has it that this Indian was very important in establishing affective and positive ties between the Spaniards and the Indians who inhabited Cartagena during the process of colonisation.
Why is she important? For the following reason: when the Spaniards arrived in Cartagena, the colonisation process was savage and bloody. This Indian was kidnapped and taken to Spain where she was enslaved. That is why she learned the Spanish language. Later, these same Spaniards returned to Cartagena and she was a translator who helped to teach the Catholic religion and many words among the Spanish and native people.
El monumento a la India Catalina Este monumento es un homenaje a como dice el título "La India Catalina". Cuenta la leyenda que, esta indígena fue muy importante en establecer lazos afectivos y positivos entre los españoles y los indios que habitaban Cartagena en el proceso de colonización. ¿Por Qué es importante? Por lo siguiente: cuando los españoles llegaron a Cartagena, el proceso de colonización fue salvaje y sangriento. Esta india, fue secuestrada y llevada a España donde fue esclava. Por ello, aprendió el idioma español. Luego, estos mismos españoles regresaron a Cartagena y ella fue una traductora que ayudó a enseñar la religión católica y muchas palabras entre las personas españolas y originarias.
The statue is located in a square just for her. What I noticed is that it doesn't have any benches or anything else to see that would be of interest.
Particularly, I think that every historical or renowned site should have something to see or appreciate, so it's like arrive, take a picture and that's it. When we go to Cartagena, I recommend that you walk alone and if you want to know some information or a location, ask if necessary.
This recommendation is based on the fact that, in the tourist guide packages, they offer you to "visit the monument" so of course, they take you, you take the photo and a 5 or 10 minutes story, does it make sense? I don't think so.
As the tour to the monument ended there, we took the option to walk around and see what we could find.

La estatua está ubicada en una plaza sola para ella. Lo que pude notar es que no tiene algun tipo de bancos o algo mas que ver que sea de interés. Particularmente, pienso que cada sitio histórico o de renombre debe tener algo que ver o apreciar, entonces es como llegar, tomarte una foto y ya. Cuando vamos a Cartagena, yo recomiendo que camine solo y si quiere saber algun dato o una ubicación, pregunte de ser necesario.
Esta recomendación es basada en que, en los paquetes de guía turísticos te ofrecen "visitar el monumento" entonces claro, te llevan, te tomas la foto y una historia de 5 o 10 minutos ¿tiene lógica? yo considero que no. Como allí acabó el paseo al monumento, tomamos la opción de caminar a ver que conseguiamos. Acà les muestro
La Bodeguita Wharf
Very close to the monument, if we walk along the edge of the walled city, we find this important pier of the city.
From here, the different boats are transferred to the nearby islands of Cartagena. It is a very busy port for locals and visitors alike, so tourists and vendors of all kinds of typical local products meet here.
We arrived late because we didn't know that there were some islands nearby, but we could notice that it is a well kept, clean place and we were told that if we wanted to go to the islands, we had to buy the tickets in the authorized ticket offices; this because some tickets are fake or overpriced.
There is an aquarium and a restaurant nearby where you can see the movement of the pier. As I said, we arrived late and did not have time to see the show, however, we did see one of the theme boats that go out at night to tour the bay of Cartagena with the tourists (a show that I have to wait for the next visit).
We kept on walking and because of the time, the heat started to make ravages, so we sat down in "La plaza del estudiante". It was a very pleasant moment because apart from resting from the inclement sun of the city, we could taste a divine and refreshing ice cream, besides watching some kids (students) practising some typical dances, and others, singing some relaxing songs with their instruments. Very entertaining in the square.
Muelle La Bodeguita Muy cerca del monumento, si vamos caminando por el borde de la ciudad amurallada, encontramos este importante muelle de la ciudad. Desde acá, se trasladan los diferentes botes hasta las islas cercanas de Cartagena. Es un puerto muy concurrido por propios y visitantes así que allí se unen los turistas con los vendedores de cualquier tipo de cosas típicas del lugar. Nosotros llegamos tarde por desconocimiento que habían unas islas cercas, pero pudimos notar que es un sitio bien cuidado, limpio y nos dijeron que si queriamos ir a las islas, debiamos comprar los tickets en las taquillas autorizadas; esto debido a que algunos ticket son falsos o con sobreprecio.
En el lugar queda un acuario y un restaurant cerca que se puede apreciar el movimiento del muelle. Como dije, nosotros llegamos tarde y no nos dió tiempo de ver el espectáculo, sin embargo, apreciamos uno de los barcos temáticos que salen en la noche a recorrer la bahía de Cartagena con los turistas (un espectaculo que me quedó pendiente para la próxima visita). Seguimos caminando y por la hora, el calor comenzó a hacer estragos, así que nos sentamos en "La plaza del estudiante". fue un momento muy ameno porque aparte de descansar del sol inclemente de la ciudad, pudimos degustar un divino y refrescante helado, además de ver a unos chicos (estudiantes) prácticar unos bailes tìpicos, y a otros, entonar unas canciones relajantes con sus instrumentos. Muy entretenida la plaza.
Finally, in order not to lose the momentum, we walked a few more streets of Cartagena before leaving, because this city has something wonderful in every corner.

Por último para no perder el impulso, caminamos algunas calles más de Cartagena antes de partir, porque eso si tiene esta ciudad que en cualquier rincón tiene algo maravilloso. Nota: en las calles encontré a esta pareja haciendo fotos, entonces yo quise una igual. este fue el resultado consejo: no lo intenten si no son profesionales 🤣😅😂.
