Hi all 👋🏻

24359909_9fcd_44bd_a21a_f2b53e653aaa.jpeg

With this post I’m joining in at the Wednesday Walk challenge and Make me Smile challenge. That are hosted by @tattoodjay and @elizacheng every week on Wednesday.

‼️Have a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community if you want to join in! or at @tattoodjay ’s Post here!

I will guide you through my photographs and my walk around Havana, the capital of CUBA 🇨🇺 seen through my eyes.

I will follow the time stamps of my photographs.
So you can walk along with me and look at all the details, people, buildings and surroundings I show you 😎 and tell you a bit about this bit of the world… as if you would be right there with me. 😉

Photos are taken with my ‘late’ Canon eos 550D on 18 and 19 October 2019. This is the time also my DSLR “died”… and in some photos you do start to see it 😣

We are visiting Havana today:

Let’s start our walk in Havana!
Are you coming….?

Before we start walking I show you Havana from afar!

A view from the opposite side of Havana, at Castillo de Los Tres Reyes Del Moro.
You can see the capital in front of you and all it’s main buildings. Do you see the Capitolio?
No? It is the largest building with the gold coloured roof…

Back to the city.

In Havana you find farmers / sellers selling their fruit and vegetables like this.

It tastes so good… the pineapples 🍍 are sweeter than I am used to. Look at their smiles 😁 it just brightens your day!

A street in the old town we walk through. It is still early and the residents go about their way. Most to work.

Repairing a car, yes… why not in the street when you do not have a garage.
I Love all the Classic cars we see in Cuba. 🥰 (I will make a separate post with them and more locations in Cuba, in due course)
I remember when I lived in a busy centre and had no garage… I repaired my Classic Mini, just like this 💪🏻😎
That is the beauty of old cars, no computer… you can still fix them up yourself…

Let’s listen to him 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶 Can you imagine the Cuban songs he is playing? 😎

We walk a bit further and reach Parque central now.

We see the Statue of José Martí and the Gran Theatre of Havana next to the Capitol building.

A little further we see impressive buildings, and the Classic Cars that are dominating the streets of Havana.

We did travel by foot and by local taxi’s “Almendrones” called, taxi collectivos and the national/ local bus service. For the Almendrones we used hand signals to point out to the drivers where we wanted to go. That’s an experience in it’s own… if you visit Cuba, try it 😎

Along the Paseo del Prado we find:

There are artists, the paseo has a park in the middle with large trees for shade and plenty of benches.

We walk back into the old town.

At Plaza de La Catedral we find this man, having a break… reading the newspaper.

Opposite him we find the Catedral de San Cristobal de La Habana.

More information about it You find here!
It states:
”Havana Cathedral (Catedral de San Cristobal) is one of eleven Catholic cathedrals on the island. It is located in the Plaza de la Catedral on Calle Empedrado, between San Ignacio y Mercaderes, Old Havana.
The thirty by forty-nine meters rectangular church serves as the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Cristobal de la Habana. Christopher Columbus’ remains were kept in the cathedral between 1796 and 1898 before they were taken to Seville Cathedral.
It was built between 1748 and 1777 and was consecrated in 1782.

As we walk further, my eyes sees this inside a large doorway… more families are living together in the very large buildings in the centre. Most are turned into apartments.

As you walk around you do see lots of buildings that fell into derespair. But I also saw… people are changing things to safeguard Havana and it’s charm. 😊 fixing them up.

Do you need a rest? Or are you ok to explore a few more streets with me?

Do your remember Plaza de La Catedral? Shall we go there… and have a drink ☕️🍺🍹 yes… we deserved it. It’s warm and the sun is out ☀️

After our rest we go further…. Let’s go! 😎

Wandering off the beaten track we see more residential areas…

What do I see?

A normal StreetScene… on a normal day.
I just love the Classic Cars. 🥰 Do you?

Next we hop onto the local Ferry ⛴ to cross Havana Port. Hope you don’t get seasick 🤢

Our views towards Havana:
58efdd6a_0f2a_4d29_9f3c_0a5a9367ba7d.jpeg
The only view I photographed as it was a bumpy and very crowded ferry ride.
We were the only tourists on board, the locals were wondering: where are they going. I just could it see. But after we started to chat in Spanish to the person next to us… all was fine. 😁

After we got out of the ferry we had this view…

On the other side in Casablanca we walked by this little grocery store, into the little “town”.

And bought some drinks inside at this window.

It was a lemonade served in cut bottles they decorated with paints… I don’t have a photo of that as we were just enjoying ourselves 😎

So now we are back after another ferry ride in Havana old town and we walk around it and see:

Another repair is done on the sidewalk… he had his tools arranged on the ground to find quickly what he needed.

Here I really start to notice something is wrong with my camera…. 📷

So I want to end this post with this last Photograph:
b3488deb_06f2_44a2_9dab_db03a75baef4.jpeg
You see here the ministry of communications from Havana, in Spanish Ministerio de Communicaciones.
I couldn’t really find much about it. Only that it has a large mural/ steel frame from Camilo Cienfuegos on it.

More information about him you can Find here!
It States:
”Camilo Cienfuegos Gorriarán, 6 February 1932 – 28 October 1959) was a Cuban revolutionary born in Havana.
Along with Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Juan Almeida Bosque, and Raúl Castro, he was a member of the 1956 Granma expedition, which launched Fidel Castro's armed insurgency against the government of Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista.
He became one of Castro's top guerrilla commanders, known as the "Hero of Yaguajay" after winning a key battle of the Cuban Revolution.”

Now it is really time to finish my post for today and our walk together 😊 it was so nice that you joined me!
