MY MORAL CODE

Source

The moral code, otherwise called ethical codes, is a set of non negotiables that you have decided on to live by to give you boundaries.
l've been fortunate to have been raised and
surrounded with good values which have become a part of me notwithstanding the environment that I was born in.

And I'm made to believe that everyone lives by an ethical code. There are no exceptions. No decision can be made about anything at all in our everyday lives without a set of values. Values here equate our ethical or moral code.
Some values are consciously chosen, others are chosen without consciously knowing you've done so. The only relevant question is this one: Are the values you've chosen rooted in the best obtainable facts, in the most logically-consistent thinking and are they as compassionate toward
other life as possible, or, are those values rooted in very poor fact - if any at all - are they logically-inconsistent in their thinking, and are they lacking in compassion for other life?

When deciding what to do I will often ask myself:

  1. Does this cause harm to me or other people?
  2. Am I wanting to do this out of revenge
or spite for what another may have done ro me?
  3. Will I be able to Iive with myself after this?
  4. Do I have the resources keep me going
after I have stepped out of line?

Most times, I get to ask myself these questions. There are other times too, when I get to act without thinking. And in that time, as a result, I would have no option but to live with whatever after-feeling from the after-math of my actions.
For everything I consider doing, I consider the short-term and long-term benefit to
myself and to others, as well as the detriment, and make a decision based mostly on those factors.
I also think that the best quality values are those that are genuinely rational, reasonable and compassionate. Irrational and unreasonable values are consistently harmful to human life. So, I strive to remain rooted in these morals.

And one moral code that I learned very early as a child and grew up in is that of Honesty. There are others too, of course but this is a core. There's just something about upright and true to oneself, to others and in dealings, that is very refreshing and leaves me walking with shoulders squared and head held high.

I like to be transparent and maybe I expect that from others. On the other hand, I assume that this is like a platform upon which other moral codes that i go by stand firmly upon. Being honest leaves me with clean conscience and in good standing with man/woman and with God. And frankly, I don't care how tough things get, I stand by what is noble. It has saved my ass and given me good reputation far too many times than I can count

Howevet, every once a while, I fall short of my own standards. When this happens, I move on and resolve to do better next time. Yes, perhaps l'm being easy or myself but life throws many challenges at each of us and I believe these challenges can best be met when we are strong and have resolved to not be shaken in our ways.

I hope this answered the question and you found it worth reading. Thanks for stopping by.
