Hello everyone, how are you doing today? Hope you are having a great time. This is going to be Week 65, Edition 03 of our Weekly Featured Content.
So, last Saturday we had our hangout as usual, and it was just so much fun we did not want it to come to an end. We are currently on our third topic for this week which is, “YOUR SOCIAL NETWORK”.
But before we proceed with the details of the topic, let us take a look at the winners of the last one which was “GENDER DISCRIMINATION”. This topic was geared toward each member of the community telling us the time that they experienced discrimination because of their gender, and also how they were able to get past such experience.
We got to see how badly discrimination can affect our society, how it breeds nothing but hate and contempt, and if care is not taken, it will grow on to become something way worse. It is something that needs to be eradicated from society! It was an enlightening topic indeed.
For this topic, we went through every entry post, and that is every post with the #hl-exclusive & #hl-w65e2 tags. And with the number of wonderful posts out there it was quite difficult to make a selection. But eventually, we did just that. This author wasn’t given the freedom to chase her dreams as she would have done if she were a boy. Her gender alone caused her to give up on her dreams and focus on the path her parents had in mind for her. She also gave instances where discrimination could rear its ugly head.
BECAUSE I AM A WOMAN by @aunty-tosin
For this author, she told us about how landlords refused to rent her their apartment just because she was a woman and was looking to stay alone. This was really terrible as it caused a lot of problems for her. It’s sad that in a world developed as ours, there are still people with such a mindset.
NAVIGATING BIAS: CONFRONTING GENDER DISCRIMINATION HEAD-ON @nhaji01
This author told about how she was told to take up chores that were for dozens of people, just because she is a woman. She refused to be intimidated and spoke out against such treatment because she knew that if she kept quiet, it would only get worse for her. And that was the right choice.
