"Hey babe," I greeted my husband as he stepped into the kitchen to share the morning cup of coffee with me.
"Good morning darling" he answered as he collected his cup of coffee from me and gave me a peck on my cheek before heading to the sitting room.
I and Tom got married 10 years ago and waking up with a cup of coffee has been our daily routine ever since we got married.*
We both finish up and head out to work in our cars.
The day went well like every other day and when I was coming back home I gave my friend a lift, Jane loved to listen to the radio so immediately she entered my car, she switched on the radio.
A program was on and a man came out to tell the world that his wife didn't actually love everything about him but she kept pretending ever since they got married.
She alighted at her designation and I went my way. Before I got home, my husband had prepared a sweet delicacy for me but I must freshen up.
I went to fresh up first and joined him in the living room.
I greeted him, "Hey honey, how was your day?" While heading to the kitchen to make coffee.
He was at the dining and he answered with a loud voice, "It was great and your dear?".
I began to gist him about what happened at work and how my day went.
I got to the dining with two cups of coffee in my hands and stretched one to him,"Honey, here is yours".
He took one of the cups from me and we both settled on the chairs.
I sat and started to sip my coffee, while my husband took his coffee and left the dining table which got me thinking of what was wrong.
I never complained about it and he never came back to eat his dinner. I asked him about it and he said, "I only made the food for you honey."
I know that was a lie but I didn't say anything about it.
The next morning, I woke up so early because I had so much to do at the office so I quickly made two cups of coffee as usual and then finished up mine while I called my husband who was still in bed, "Honey, your coffee is ready" he answered me from the bedroom, "Ok honey".
I rushed out to start my car and zoomed off. I was a few blocks away when I noticed that I didn't take my phone from the kitchen so I rushed back and went straight to the kitchen.
I caught my husband pouring away the coffee I made for him in the sink, and I stood there watching him while I couldn't say a word to him, he moved closer to me and said, "Honey please, am sorry".
I was in shock but I managed to look straight into his eyes and then asked, "Sorry about what exactly?"
He held my left hand and said, "Honey please am sorry for everything, I lied to you because I love you, I never liked coffee but I took it because you loved it".
I closed my eyes for some minutes, then opened them to reply and him.
"You mean all that you have been saying that you love everything that has to do with me was all lies? You throw my precious coffee away because you never liked it, why can't you just come out plain to tell me? Why did you make me believe that we are on the same path while we are not?"
He knelt to beg me but I was too hurt because I couldn't believe whatever he wanted to say at that moment so l left for work.
I told my friend and she begged me on his behalf but I was too hurt to listen to her or anyone concerning him. I moved in with another friend and a few days later, I heard a knock on the door, I know I wasn't expecting a visitor but I just stood up to get the door.
I opened the door and it was Tom, he was on his knees with a red rose in his hand. My friend was at my back pleading in a lower voice and I don't want to become a wicked person Meanwhile I still love him and I have missed him as well. So I helped him up from his knees and we hugged.
I said to him, "Never lie to someone who loves you, and it is better to let me know the truth than to pretend to me" and he whispered to reply me into my ears.
"Am sorry honey, forgive me this one I will never lie to you again"
I smiled and that was how we settled our quarrel and we went back home together.
