Una de las fechas más pintorescas y visitadas por turistas en la Colonia Tovar son los Carnavales
Es una tradición ver las comparsas de los Jokilis, quienes usan una vestimenta parecida a un arlequín, lleva un traje rojo con flecos en el cuello, mangas, cintura y piernas y en cada punta unos cascabeles, utilizan una máscara de madera, y zapatos rojos puntiagudos, cada Jokili lleva en su mano una vara con una vejiga de cochino anudada, con la que golpean a los turistas que se consiguen a su paso.
Esta comparsa sale desde el día jueves con el nacimiento del Jokili, dónde le dan comienzo a las festividades carnestolendas y finaliza el día martes donde hacen el simulacro del entierro del Jokili que significa que ya se acaba el carnaval.
Por otra parte están los gorilas, estos personajes visten una braga cubierta de barba de palo, y una máscara de gorila, traída de Alemania. Estos personajes salen en su comparsa desde el día sábado interactuando, haciendo bailes y morisquetas haciendo reír a los turistas y pasar un rato ameno en las calles principales del pueblo de la Colonia Tovar.
