I’ll admit it. I treat my dog as my kid. There, I said it. And when you hear your doggo-kid has to have surgery on even something minor, it’s not super cool and maybe..just maybe I will be a little bit more understanding when parents are crying when their kid is going off to surgery.

So the dog had a little lump in the mouth. Lumps are always something that you need to be aware of how they are behaving. Especially in places like a mouth they have the tendency to bleed easily and that will cause drama, but also they potentially could be malignant. But most likely these lumps on bigger dogs are benign and called ‘Epulides’ and especially boxers tend to have them. Time to get rid of it though before it starts to turn into something annoying.

So when we went to surgery the dog got a shot of a mixture of ketamine and a painkiller as an anesthesia in his back muscle and started to drift off quite fast. I was sitting there next to him so he wouldn’t drop down. Honestly, even though it went really gently, it wasn’t a pretty sight. In the second snap you can already see that he is hanging over and wasn’t responding to anything already anymore, and on the third snap he was just plain old out but still with his eyes open. The good thing at the vet is that they let you be with the dog until he is entirely out so he has someone familiar with him the whole time.

Now I just picked him up again after his surgery and the poor thing was still so groggy and could barely walk or even stand up on his feet. We had to lift him in the car and that aint easy with more than 40 kilos of non cooperating animal. No eating for this one today, and just a lot of cuddles while relaxing on the pillow and just doing nothing.

Fingers crossed that nothing weird comes out of pathology and he can go back to being the cool mo-fo again!
