1oz Silver Proof Four Horsemen of The Financial Apocalypse

When I first saw this round, I knew I had to grab one. I've come across a few horsemen of the apocalypse designs, but typically they're just painted coins or rounds, which doesn't interest me much. I've seen some sets of four that aren't painted, but they're typically $50+ each, so I typically pass on those as well.

When I saw this had all four on it and was a design meant to be tongue in cheek, I was tempted. When I saw it was very low mintage, I decided to get one. Low mintage pieces tend to appreciate in value over time, and even if it doesn't it's a great design.

Obverse

The obverse has a great eagle design resting on the Gold Standard logo. The US Mint could take a lesson or two from them on how to make an appealing eagle design.

Reverse
The reverse has the Four Horsemen of The Apocalypse depicted, riding their horses into battle. It's amusing there's a flurry of dollar bills raining down everywhere.

The bottom of the design reads similar to a stock ticker you'd see on a news channel. It reads "NASDAQ: AU +10,000 AG +5,000 PT +7,500 BPS $" and then the text starts to crumble and disintegrate into nothing as it trails off. I think this is a subtle, clever addition to the design. It's telling you that gold (AU), silver (AG) and platinum (PT) futures prices are skyrocketing, as the bond market interest rates (Measured in Basis Points, or BPS) are crumbling, showing a complete lack of faith in paper and digital currencies.

Specifications
Purity: .999
Weight: 1 Troy ounce
Finish: Proof
Mintage: 100

I had previously seen a few posts from Gold Standard Precious Metals in the Reddit stacking communities. They put out a very classy, smooth, square silver bar. The premium is higher than I'd care to pay, but they are top notch, so I figured I'd give their limited mintage pieces a chance. I was not disappointed.

I paid $69.95 for this round, which certainly isn't the highest price I've paid for a silver proof round or coin. I think these will be highly collectible in the future, because the design is crisp and the mintage is so low on these. Time will tell, but in the meantime I have an awesome new piece in the collection!
