Vintage Record Label of the Day - Cameo

Cameo Records was founded in 1916 by the Leo Feist Inc. music publishing company and was one of the leading record labels of the 1920s. The label produced recordings in a variety of musical styles, including popular dance music, vaudeville, blues, and jazz.

Like many of the smaller labels of the 20's, Cameo did not survive past the 30's, but they did have some success in building out jazz; Bix Beiderbecke, one of the leading jazz pioneers of the day, was signed to Cameo, giving the label some definite star power.

Cameo was also one of the earlier adopters of the new "electrical recording" processes of 1926 and later.

The record showing in the picture above will feature in my Three Tune Tuesday livestream tomorrow!
