Vintage Record Label of the Day - Madison

Madison Records was founded in 1921 by Frank W. Madison. It was never a "big" label, but was very influential at the time and did include some of what would become very well known musicians, such as Fats Waller, Jelly Roll Morton, and Benny Goodman.

Madison Records was known for its willingness to take risks and explore new musical directions. The label was one of the first to record and release jazz, blues, and gospel numbers, which at the time had a largely negative reputation and were considered to be too risqué for polite society.

This innovative approach earned the label a reputation, and by the end of the decade it was one of the most popular and respected record labels in the world. Madison Records released many of the classic jazz, blues, and gospel recordings of the era, which served as an inspiration to countless musicians.

Sadly, I do not have many of these records, and none with the really famous musicians (at least not on this label; I have them on others). If nothing else, the label itself is really pretty!
