Most people in Bangladesh live in villages. And the standard of living of most of these people is middle class and lower middle class. So, the women of the village who have a little less education prefer to do various activities at home. After completing various household chores, rural women work in various types of cottage industries. Sewing of Nakshi Katha (Designed Quilt) is one of them. Nakshi Katha is in great demand. Because this plays an important role in our winter prevention and even when it is rainy season as well. And when various designs incorporated on the kantha, it is captivating as well with comfortability.
I have already shared some quilt and hand fan work in this NEEDLE WORK MONDAY community which you can see from the link below this post. Here are the links to all the posts I have made in this community so that you can easily see these posts.
Although I am not an expert in sewing quilt, I try to share all the needle work around me. The needle work that I am going to share with you today is also quite and made by my sister as earlier. I have already told you that my sister has a lot of hobbies to sew kantha and embroider new designs on it. So out of the many needle work of my family, I am sharing with you some part of a story made by my sister.
In fact, the main thing that works in making kantha is giving a lot of time. If you have been sewing kantha with even a single and simple stitching, then you need to sew kantha for a long time like 15 days spending 2-4 hours per day. And if you use different types of stitches, it takes about 1 month. In the old days, there was a competition among the people to sew quilt with different design and there was a competition among themselves as to who could make the most beautiful design on quilt. But even in today's rural society, this competition and work is not so much seen now. Now most of the quilts are sewn with machines. Moreover, kantha is made with some synthetic fibers which are available in the market at a much lower price and do not require much sewing. Brushing with Fleece Knitting cloth in particular makes it very comfortable in winter. So these Fleece fabrics are used as Quilt so the costing and price of quild is much less.
But if we think of washing the kantha or using it for a long time, then I think that the Quilt made by hand in rural society, that is, sewn by hand, cannot be compared to them. So, no matter how much artificial things come in our hands at a much lower price, this rural art classical will survive among us for a long time.
I have tried to take some pictures from very close so that those who are involved in making Quilt can see the type of sewing from very close. It is sewn like a lock stitch even though it is hand stitch. And when different flowers and designs on kantha are painted with many colors, its beauty is multiplied as you can see here.
Thanks to my sister for giving me such a beautiful thing so that I can share. Thank you for reading my post and seeing the pictures. If anyone has any comments or questions, please let me know in the comments. Thanks
