Intro:

Quilt is very common to the people here in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is a country with six seasons. The condition of weather is not so cold and so hot. So, for this reason, simple and designed quilt are the common to the mass people here from lower income level to higher income level. Personally, I have a lot of designed quilt which was made by the combined effort of my wife, me and some relatives in the form of gift. So, in this community I shall show one after one about my needle work. Personally, I am a Textile Engineer. So, I need to knit several fabrics with knitting machine with the help of needle. Hopefully I shall show one after one of those knitting, crochet and weaving works both manual and machine.

Step by Step activities of Quilt sewing:

First of all, I need to combine two old sharees (common dress of Bengali women). When the sharees are being old then its being used for quilt making that’s normal scenario here for my case. This is very common case for most of others. Here normally quilts are not made with new cloths rather with old cloth because its comfortable and reuse of cloth. But outer layer is made with new fabrics most of the cases. Whatever, I have joined the layers with some simple big stitches so that they can have a dimensional stability. These big stitches will be withdrawn after completion of normal stitches.

Then, now its time to draw the pattern. Most women cannot draw their pattern that’s why they hire some expert women or male to just draw the pattern. Me and my wife are good at drawing. So, combinedly we have drawn the pattern of flowers. My sister also helped us in this case. This is the planning quilt for my upcoming babies. See the pattern of drawing from following pictures.

And now it’s the main work of stitching. In the leisure time, it’s done by us. For any normal quilt it takes about more than a month to sew whole. As it done in leisure time, its take that much time. Otherwise 5-10 days would be enough. The dimension of the quilt is 7’ × 6’ which is double size. Its suitable for two persons. That’s why it takes little bit high time than single quilt stitching.

The main attraction of this one is its bold stitches and three-color combination. Bold stitches at regular interval makes it looking different and beautiful, I think. This was my wife’s idea. There are some other quilts which has not been made with this kind of pattern. Now, the stitching work is going on regularly. The line part of the quilt is about to finish and then we shall start flower part. Hopefully within very short time I shall able to come up with the final post on this quilt and ending of our needle work for this part. That’s it today.
