What started as a casual passtime at the suggestion of my wife soon turned into a deep fascination with the country's rich culture, delicious cuisine and most importantly, its breathtaking natural scenery. Over the years, I have seen Korea's stunning beauty only on my screens and have included it in my travel plans to experience it firsthand. But today it is a carefully crafted fantasy trip that allows me to immerse myself in the country's unique natural beauty as well as experience its vibrant history and modern culture.

The focus of my trip begins on Jeju Island. Often called the “Hawaii of Korea,” this volcanic landscape island promises to transport you to a world of serene and breathtaking landscapes. My main goal here is to enjoy the island’s famous waterfalls and visit its pristine beaches. I imagine myself standing in front of Cheonjeon Waterfall, with the beautiful feeling of the gentle spray of the falling water on my face. A must-visit is the Jeongbang Waterfall, one of the few waterfalls in Asia that falls directly into the sea, offering a stunning view of the power and beauty of nature. Apart from the waterfalls, I would like to spend my days walking the village streets of Jeju and in the evenings strolling on the white sand of the beach, listening to the gentle sound of the waves, and soaking in the peaceful atmosphere that has made Jeju a favorite in my travel diary.

Another day or two of travel from Seoul would take me to Nami Island, a place immortalized by the Korean drama Winter Sonata. My fascination with the island is its famous tree-lined paths, lined with towering redwoods, and the ginkgo tree lanes that turn a dazzling gold in the fall, are places I have wanted to visit for years. The island offers a quiet, romantic escape, a chance to just stroll, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the rich beauty of nature. Cycling along the riverside paths or sitting under these beautiful trees and enjoying a cup of tea sounds like the best way to spend a peaceful afternoon.
서울에서 하루 이틀 더 가면 드라마 '겨울연가'의 배경으로 영원히 기억될 남이섬에 갈 수 있을 것 같습니다. 제가 남이섬에 매료된 이유는 높이 솟은 레드우드가 늘어선 가로수길과 가을이면 눈부시게 황금빛으로 물드는 은행나무 가로수 때문입니다. 이 섬은 제가 몇 년 전부터 꼭 가보고 싶었던 곳들입니다. 남이섬은 조용하고 낭만적인 휴식처를 제공하며, 그저 산책을 하고 신선한 공기를 마시며 자연의 아름다움을 만끽할 수 있는 기회를 제공합니다. 강변 길을 따라 자전거를 타거나 아름다운 나무 아래에 앉아 차 한 잔을 즐기는 것은 평화로운 오후를 보내는 최고의 방법이라고 생각합니다.
Although I have a heart for nature, a trip to Korea would be incomplete without visiting its capital, Seoul. This is the city that first introduced me to the country through its stories. Here, my focus will shift from nature to culture and history. I will visit magnificent palaces like Gyeongbokgung to feel the depth of Korea's long and glorious history. To fully immerse myself in the country's traditions, my wife and I would like to stay in a traditional hanok house in Bukchon Hanok Village, which is close to the city center yet gives off a quiet, "little outskirts" feel with its historic charm. It will be a great base to see the modern side of the city and get a glimpse of history. For my wife, a day or two will be spent exploring the vibrant shopping areas of Myeongdong and Hongdae, where she can enjoy the latest fashion and beauty trends, a stark contrast to the serenity of nature walks, but a much-needed one since a woman's trip is not complete without doing a lot of shopping.
