It finally happened. We are now the very proud owners of our hot tub. Before 9:00 am they arrived with it on the trailer and set about getting it backed up to the pad. It took a bit of maneuvering for them to get the trailer onto the level next to the pad. Once it was there they disconnected the trailer and spun it to the pad. The hot tub got spun around to get the controls facing the house and after some more maneuvering it was in place on the pad.
We got a bunch of questions answered before they left and then the family got in to see how it feels before the water got filled.
I drilled a hole in the base and then ran the 6/3 wire for the power and got it all hooked up. Nice and easy and they have the terminals labeled so it is impossible to screw it up.
While I was waiting for them to show up I had started picking squash and stopped while they were here. Once I got the water started filling the hot tub I went and finished picking. 19 pounds was ready which surprised me since as I was picking it was pretty slim until I hit the last rows and got over half the bucket filled.
It was about 9:30 when we started filling it and it took about 1.5 hours to get it full. We used the softened water from the house since our well is so high in iron. That meant we needed to get some calcium chloride to bring the calcium levels up.
AS soon as it was nearly full I kicked the power on and got it running. SUPER happy it powered right up.
I set the temperature to 103 F and we covered it to let it heat. We went to town to the hot tub store and got the chemicals we need, a couple of booster seats for the boys, a skimmer, and test strips.
After we got back from town the tub was in the mid 60s F and I had wanted to go up and check on the melons and winter squash. It's a good thing we went up as there were 32 pounds of ripe Minnesota Midget melons and some had split open they were to ripe and had too much water.
The other watermelon was ready and the 4 Boston Marrows got pulled since the plant got eaten by the gophers.
In total I got 38 lbs of melons and 175 lbs of winter squash. The Boston Marrows weigh 32, 22, 18, and 9 lbs. Even for such a huge squash it really doesn't weight much which means it is very hollow. I have zero clue what I am going to do with all these squash, but I have them and there is way more in the garden that will be getting picked over the next month.
I went through the tomatoes again and picked what was ready. There were a good number of the larger tomatoes and some of the cherry. I found a few of the tomatillos that had split the husk and looked ready so I popped them into the basket with the tomatoes. About 5 1/4 lbs of tomatoes.
It was 6:00 pm when the water was to 98F and we decided it was warm enough for us to get in.
IT... IS... AMAZING!!!!!!!
OMG is it so nice. The jets in my spot are incredible and my back and body feel like a wet noodle. So many years of wishing, dreaming, and hoping has finally turned out how we wanted it. The tub has a UV and Ozone system that helps reduce the amount of chlorine we need to add such that we barely can smell any chlorine.
It has led lighting in the tub and around the rim. The laminar flow jets that create the water falls are lit which looks really cool at night. The lights can be changed to whatever color we want or can cycle the rainbow. We soaked for a while then after the boys went to bed we went and soaked gain before bed. Last night was the hardest I have slept in years and I barely could get out of bed this morning, except for the fact that we had the tub to go soak in which made us get out of bed.
This morning we already soaked for a while and my god my body feels good. Today I have the harvests to get to, I am going to double check the water in the tub and make sure the levels are all correct, this evening is the school open house for J, and I need to wash theirs and my laundry.
Not sure how many may have seen the American Dad episode "Hot Tub of Love" but it is all I can think of and can't stop quoting it as we soak.
