Intel says flawed EU antitrust decision underpins $1.2 billion fine By Reuters

Intel on Tuesday said EU antitrust controllers missed the point when they fined the chipmaker 1.06 billion euros ($1.2 billion) over 10 years back for defeating a British opponent for a situation that could influence Google and Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM).

The U.S. organization set out its contentions at the General Court in a re-knowing about a case seen as testing the European Commission's capacity to follow U.S. tech goliaths which offer motivating forces, for example, discounts to bait clients from contenders.

EU antitrust masters in 2009 said Intel attempted to square Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) by offering discounts to PC producers Dell [DI.UL], Hewlett-Packard Co, NEC and Lenovo for purchasing a large portion of their chips from Intel.

The General Court is hearing the case for the second time after the EU Court of Justice (CJEU), Europe's most elevated, in 2017 couldn't help contradicting its 2014 decision backing the Commission's choice, in a significant misfortune to the EU rivalry watchdog.
