Sometimes, it appears to me very funny how man's existence and the way to live well are totally programmed to work according to the decisions we make. Sometimes, I get thinking overboard about how our Creator gave us the free will to make decisions about our lives. Why didn't our creator program everyone to live and be controlled by Him totally?
In the few years I have lived on this planet, I have made decisions that have made me excel and also made decisions that have backfired and taught me good life lessons, following the saying, "experience is the best teacher."
Like I've mentioned many times in some of my articles, there was a time I was pulled out of a business I was managing to work as an employee. The owner of the business got an offer to manage a company owned by one of his relatives, so he decided to close down the business he left under my cars and got me employed in the company he was managing. After some years, the company closed up, and we were left with nothing to fall back on. I had to start from scratch again to open a new business. That's why they say we should never put all our eggs in one basket.
In my workplace (the business I'm managing), I had this set of young guys who patronised me often. They were guys that I know very well on my street, and they are into "Yahoo." Based on the rapport I have with them, they were collecting their clothes on credit, and when the money had accumulated to a good amount, they would clear the payment with ease because they had the money. With that pattern, I kept attending to their laundry like that, accumulating the money, and I wasn't concerned because they would clear off the payment whenever I needed money.
Mehn, I knew I was following a dangerous path, but I didn't want to lose the continuous patronage I was getting from them, and I also knew they would pay up.
Then suddenly, they stopped coming around. They relocated from our street and left some of their clothes with me. I would message them, and they would tell me they would come around soon. The relocation here doesn't mean they left town; they only relocated to another street that's kind of far away from mine. That's how they left their debt, a very huge amount of money unpaid. So, because some of their clothes are still with me, they always use that to tell me they will come and collect them and pay off the debt. It's been a year plus, and nothing. So bad, I can't sell the clothes to get my money back. Lol.
Ever since then, no matter how promising a customer appears, I don't let them take clothes on credit, except in a genuine situation where I know I'm surely going to get my money within a short time.
