Hive Naija Weekly Prompt | Edition 41: MY COUNTRY AND I; TOWARDS A BETTER AND HEALTHIER NATION

Hello great people @HiveNaija community, happy new week and its yet another awesome time on the @hivenaija weekly prompt. I'm @fab-tay and i am excited to be participating in this week's prompt as my discuss will be on the things I'm doing which are beneficial to my community, city and the nation at large. It will be an interesting read as you read till the end. Source

I'm a healthcare professional (Pharmacist) and healthcare sector is one of the mainstream in the nation as only healthier citizens can be productive and contribute their individual quotas to the growth and development of the nation. Many things has befell my nation (Nigeria) in the area of health sector like mass exodus of healthcare workers (Doctors, Pharmacists, Nurses etc), the high cost of drugs due to the inflation and dollar rise, the menace of drug abuse, misuse etc, the breaches in healthcare like circulation of fake drugs, breeding of quacks do and many other things.

As a patriotic citizen and a noble professional, i work in a Community Pharmacy premise where i have a direct contact to patients and interact first-hand with the patients of different classes and categories. Through this, i was able to meet the health needs of patients within my capacity as permitted under the law and hereby providing pharmaceutical/patient-care services.
As a community pharmacist, i meet the needs of citizens within my community of practice by attending to their:
•drug/healthcare needs
•providing safe, effective, affordable drugs/health items
•attending to prescriptions
•patient counseling/awareness
•pharmaceutical care services
•individualised therapies
•drug refills
•prescription/treating of minor dieases/infections •management of some diseases/disorders towards recovery
•point-of-care testings etc Also, i went through the mandatory national service in another part of the country where i served in the hospital setting and contributed to the health care work force of that state at that present time. Also, i was part of the Covid-19 National Center of Disease Control officials at orientation camp in far north where i served ensuring strict observance of the safety protocols and reducing the spread of the virus at the hit of the pandemic.

Most importantly, i was the facilitating coordinator of the Young Pharmacist Group (YPG) of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) of my state in my community facilitating an outreach to a secondary school in my community of practice in order to commemorate World Pharmacist Day last year hereby educating these secondary school students on career choice, health awareness, enlightenment on drug use/abuse/misuse and how these promising young ones who are the future of the country can be the best they can be. Also, at one point or the other, there have been medical outreaches organised by individuals, professional bodies, religious bodies which i was a part of as part of the pharmaceutical team working with other healthcare providers and by this reaching out to rural dwellers whose access to quality healthcare is very low as my country is still on the road to attaining global health care coverage.

Been in Nigeria right now amidst the exodus and the high demand for a better health care delivery is a plus for my country and which i believe things will get better as we all rally round and contribute our best. I believe my contribution to my immediate community as a Pharmacist with that of my other colleagues in other communities all around the cities/rural areas is of immense advantage to the nation. For example, Pharmacies are go-to place during the Covid-19 pandemic because the hospitals are already loaded with patients then and many are left stranded. I believe in a better and healthier nation. Thanks for reading and have a great week ahead, comments are welcomed.
