[ESP-ING] Mi nuevo amigo, Augusto - My new friend, Augusto
I met my friend Augusto a few months ago, a young man of 83 years old, who with his voice calms storms.
My friend Augusto is the noble father of a good friend, this gentleman is kind, tender and helpful. When we met we talked a little about life as an emigrant, it was close and pleasant to talk with someone who had just arrived in Colombia.
Little by little we shared more, and at a certain point I realized that I had an appreciation for him. He reminded me a lot of my uncle Victor, an older brother of my grandmother, who had many stories, who liked books and was a hard worker.
My friend Augusto always talked to me about the books he was reading, once he even lent me a book of apprentice writers to inspire me, every page I read filled me with affection for that man who listened to what I told him and really had an appreciation for me and my husband.
You don't meet people like that anymore, that from the moment you see them, they fill you with a kind of calmness, you feel you can trust them, that they are good people.
This gentleman at 83 years old walks super fast, it is difficult to keep up with him, besides, he is impatient to work and continue to collect anecdotes of life, to be filled with enthusiasm and to make new friends, many things that young people run away from.
Augusto made me reflect, because if he wanted to start again without fear at his age, one should venture to learn a new trade, to retake that course that once seemed difficult and simply fail and try again.
Sometimes we don't give ourselves the opportunity to learn from our elders, I think we have been too preoccupied with teaching them how to use technology or how to be aware when crossing the street, instead of sitting down and learning from their wisdom.
Anyway, I got used to the fact that every time I went to see my friend I also talked to Augusto, but he had to go back to Venezuela. A few days ago he left because of a family problem, and the truth is that when I said goodbye to him I was very sad, because he is one of those beautiful people that you get in life.
In his suitcase he carried 23 books that he had bought here at a used book market, he told me that the grandchildren wanted him to bring him candy, but he would bring them books, to see if he would give them something useful in life. 23 books he had already read during his stay here.
With a hand of cambur in a bag, and his books he left by road in a bus, from here with prayers we accompany him to his arrival in Aragua, Venezuela.
I hope to see you soon, my friend Augusto... tell me about the books you have discovered and I will tell you what I am doing again, Bon voyage!
