Uno de los recuerdos más presentes de mi infancia tiene que ver con los llamados Gummibärchen (Ositos de Goma) o Goldbären (Osos de Oro), que son golosinas de goma con forma de osito de sabor a fruta de la marca alemana Haribo. Cuando en los '60s algún familiar o amigo regresaba de Alemania, lo que los niños recibíamos como regalo era por lo general una bolsa de Gummibärchen. Siendo totalmente sincera, de pequeña esto me decepcionaba un poco, porque prefería mil veces el chocolate o el dulce de goma de regaliz, de color negro brillante, cuyo nombre en alemán Lakritze siempre me causó fascinación. Sin embargo, esta golosina me traslada a bellos recuerdos de mi infancia. Era muy emocionante que alguien que hubiera viajado a México desde tan lejos, literalmente desde el otro lado del charco cargara con algo especial para nosotros en sus maletas.
WHAT CANDY TAKES YOU BACK TO YOUR CHILDHOOD?
One of my fondest childhood memories is Gummibärchen (Gummi Bears) or Goldbären (Golden Bears), the German fruit-flavored gummy bears from Haribo. When a family member or friend returned from Germany in the '60s, children usually received a bag of Gummibärchen as a gift. To be perfectly honest, as a child, I was rather disappointed because I preferred chocolate or the shiny black licorice gum candy, whose German name Lakritze always had fascinated me. Nevertheless, these sweets take me back to beautiful moments of my childhood. It was very exciting that someone who had traveled to Mexico from so far away, literally from the other side of the pond carried something special for us in the suitcases.

Pasaron muchos años para que de adulta tuviera de nuevo un contacto con los Gummibärchen. Hace tiempo trabajé como maestra de idiomas en una empresa alemana. Los ingenieros que regresaban de sus viajes de trabajo tenían por costumbre traer dulces de diferentes partes del mundo y dejarlos en el área de recepción para compartir. Some time ago, I worked as a language teacher in a German company.>It took many years before I had contact with Gummibärchen again. Engineers returning from their work trips used to bring sweets from different parts of the world and leave them at the reception area to share. And, of course, gummy bears were a must.
