Atención al Atleta
The Athlete Care Program at SWC began in May 2022, within the framework of the Competition National Open Street Workout Duals Battles ( SWDB). The purpose of this Program is to provide a space for attention before, during and after each event in which the athlete participates. It is to ensure that athletes participate in exhibitions, versus and competitions without any type of injury. On this occasion we have Orvan Aponte as Physiotherapist who provided excellent care to the athletes.

Throughout this day, 16 athletes were attended. Most of the 16 athletes presented post-event muscle contractures due to muscle overwork. Some athletes were treated with massages, electrotherapy and application of neuromuscular taping. Depending on the assessment by the Physiotherapist, each athlete is treated with a specific therapy. Several of the athletes had trigger points at the time of assessment. Trigger points are areas where you can feel nodules that are often painful. They originate because the muscle contracts and blood flow in the area decreases. Depending on the type of trigger point, the pain can be spontaneous and permanent until it causes impediment of the movement of the muscle where it is located (active trigger point) or it can generate pain when pressing the area (latent trigger point). Some athletes were treated with Percussion Gun massages. Other athletes received electrotherapy and sports stretching. It should be noted that 10 of the 16 athletes were treated at the end of the event with neuromuscular taping as a method of preventive treatment for injuries due to excess tension. Also, 2 athletes who presented injuries in the lumbar region were given continuity of treatment. The Physiotherapist carried out the therapy taking into account the affected area. The attention of the athletes was mostly to relax the muscles of the upper body due to some contracture or post-event injury. On this occasion we have electrotherapy equipment and a percussion gun, property of the Physiotherapist. On this occasion, all the therapies used were aimed at providing well-being to the athlete. Therapies applied to the muscles of the upper body. These muscles correspond to the abdominal area, lower back area, pectoral area, arms and shoulders. Percussion Therapy aims to reduce pain, increase blood flow and achieve mobility in the affected area. These therapies were applied according to the requirements of each athlete. All athletes were assisted in real time.
