Lake Neusiedler is still one of the best bird photography spots in Austria, eventhough the water levels in the last years were very bad, except from this year. This year in Spring we had a very decent water level and therefore there were a lot of birds again. I hope this will be a bit sustainable. Birds like the european stonechat live there ont he nearby fields where there are still some nice grasslands where they can find food and breed. The European Stonecaht is one of the more seldom birds in middle Europe, but there is a pretty big population in eastern Europe so it is not threatened. During spring time and bird migration it can be found in Austria and this is the time when I took some pictures of it in the grassland of eastern Austria. The bird was perching on a branch and I could get pretty close before it flew away. I really like taking pictures at the grassland near the Lake Neusiedler in Austria because there are a lot of different species there and you can really find some rarities.

When I visit lake Neusiedler in Eastern Austria I really like taking pictures of wading birds in the shallow water and because a lot of spots there only have very few water and it is very shallow, it is pretty easy to get closer to birds like these black winged stilts here. Lake Neusiedler is also the only place here in Austria where I can fild these birds. There are a lot of different bird species there but since the water is getting fewer and fewer there also the birds are declining in numbers.
