I think that many people do not live in adulthood where they were born and grew up. I'm one of them and I can testify that always returning to the place of childhood comes with a lot of emotion and nostalgia. Especially when childhood was in the country and the rest of life is spent in the city.
Well, when you're a little kid, everything around you gets really big... All my childhood memories of my grandparents' house, of the playgrounds, always in the middle of nature, bring to my eyes vast spaces, hills, and forests that seemed huge to me, but are really quite small. The same goes for natural phenomena, rain, storms, and lightning. The fog, always made me afraid, because I thought I would get lost forever and never find my way home.
Whenever I go to my grandparents' house, somewhere in the north of Romania, I remember my childhood joys and fears and I want to visit, to see again all my childhood places. If I can still find the places I used to play in my childhood, some of them modified by the passing of the years, I don't really see the natural phenomena in the few days I can stay there.
My most recent trip was a surprise.
I love the fog! I'm over my childhood fear. Now I'm drawn to its mysterious visual effect. I didn't expect to have this chance of fog and was unprepared to photograph it. I did what I could and I hope I didn't make too many mistakes...
Fog in the center of the small town.
There will always be a church in the center of a town in Romania.
The fog is seen through the windows of my grandparents' house.
The place from where I used to watch, angrily, as a child, the unleashing of nature, the rains, the snow, the fog that prevented me from going out into the hills and playing with friends.
Fog over the lake.
On the outskirts of the small town, there were several lakes made in the valley of a river by several rows of dykes. It was a place far from home and where I was not allowed to go. It was like forbidden fruit. All my childhood I wanted to be by the lake, but I had to watch it from a distance.
Now I still photograph the fog like a cloud covering the lake and the houses, and the hills around.
This is my entry for @qurator's photo quest with the theme Fog/Mist.
