Hace unos meses visité la provincia más occidental de Cuba, Pinar del Río. La verdad es que fue un viaje por asuntos familiares, pero ya que estaba allí, no iba a desperdiciar la oportunidad de conocer la ciudad. Así que pedí recomendaciones de lugares a los que ir a tomar un cafecito y pasar un rato agradable. La mayoría de las personas terminaron recomendando el mismo lugar: "El Café Optuza". Así que el domingo me levanté y decidí conocer un poco de la ciudad e ir al afamado café.

A few months ago I visited the westernmost province of Cuba, Pinar del Río. The truth is that it was a trip for family business, but since I was there, I was not going to waste the opportunity to see the city. So I asked for recommendations of places to go for a coffee and have a good time. Most of the people ended up recommending the same place: "El Café Optuza". So on Sunday I got up and decided to see a little about the city and go to the famous café.

Cuando llegué, me recibieron muy amablemente y me preguntaron si quería entrar al reservado o quedarme en el portal. Elegí el portal, donde había unas 5 mesitas y las paredes, decoradas completamente con chapillas de diferentes temáticas. La música era agradable y su volumen también, lo cual es cada vez más difícil de encontrar en lugares como este en mi país. Resumiendo hasta ahora: la atención, el ambiente y la decoración estaban bien

When I arrived, they greeted me very kindly and asked me if I wanted to enter the reserved room or stay in the portal. I chose the portal, where there were about 5 small tables and the walls, completely decorated with plates of different themes. The music was nice and its volume too, which is getting harder to find in places like this in my country. Summarizing so far: the attention, the atmosphere and the decoration were good.

La verdad es que los precios también eran bastante asequibles. ¿Y la comida? Allá vamos. Pedí una tabla que incluía: lascas de queso, jamón, chorizo, albóndigas,croquetas, tostadas con trocitos de tomate, aceitunas negras, malangas fritas y chicharrones, por 700 pesos cubanos. Debo decir que no estaba barato, pero me pareció un buen precio por la calidad y cantidad que ofrecía. Todo estaba riquísimo y una de las cosas que más me sorprendió es que los chicharrones estaban suaves pero crujientes, la verdad es que no me lo esperaba. También pedí un café bombón que me gustó bastante, pero realmente no recuerdo el precio.

The truth is that the prices were also quite affordable. And the food? Here we go. I ordered a table that included: slices of cheese, ham, chorizo, meatballs, croquettes, toast with tomato bits, black olives, fried malangas and chicharrones, for 700 Cuban pesos. I must say that it was not cheap, but I thought it was a good price for the quality and quantity that it offered. Everything was delicious and one of the things that surprised me the most is that the pork rinds were soft but crunchy, the truth is that I did not expect it. I also ordered a bonbon coffee which I quite liked, but I don't really remember the price.

La verdad es que fue un lugar nuevo, en una provincia nueva, que no decepcionó. Desearía volver a Pinar del Río para poder volver a ir 😂.
