Our body needs water to function properly. There are approximately 60-70% water in our body. One of the hormones called cortisol that gives us the energy to handle stress and fear as a part of fight to fight instinct. A little bit of dehydration may cause cortisol levels in our body to increase and lead to stress.

“You’re actually likely to get more dehydrated when you’re under stress, because your heart rate is up and you’re breathing more heavily, so you’re losing fluid,” says Renee Melton, MS, RD, LD, director of nutrition for Sensei, a developer of online and mobile weight loss and nutrition programs.

Stress can cause dehydration and dehydration can increase stress. It is like a vicious cycle. To break this cycle, drink water.

An international health expert, Dr. John Tickel says “science has shown us that water is an excellent solution for improving mood and reducing negative stress, with well hydrated people reporting less fatigue, less confusion, and less tension”.

So, don’t forget to drink water and stay hydrated to reduce stress as well as stay healthy and fit.
