I'm just posting the milestone BJJ experiences for the time being, as for now and into the near future, it's primarily just more knuckling down and getting many more repetitions of the same group of lessons

It's been a long time between posts, partially because I lost track of where I was up to with which lesson I had written about, partially because it gets kind of boring for both you and me to keep going

The rear takedown indicator (in this drill), is clinching with your opponent, and they try to push your head down into a guillotine choke. You stand up straight and look upward, pushing your head up behind

Third time I've done this lesson now, and it's sinking in well. I don't feel that there are many new details to take note of with the clinches, I think it's more a matter of just repetitions; doing it

We've done the leg hook takedown/trap and rolls lesson a couple of times now, and there wasn't much to report about it really. All good with the trap and rolls, and I got the leg hook takedown happening

Second time doing this lesson, and in the past, the double leg takedown has always been a movement/technique which I have never really done well or got the fluent hang of. I guess it's pretty dynamic,

We have gone over the standing headlock defence quite a few times, and the technique is always being refined by small details. My partner was really nailing it this time with precision though; when I hit

The indicator for the standing guillotine defence is obviously if your opponent catches you in a guillotine choke. You flex your neck muscles, and catch their guillotine-ing wrist with your hand on that

After leading an art gallery talk last Thursday night I had a realization about how being able to choose to be calm and relaxed is a crucial part of any kind of performance. Whether you're sparring in

Second time I'd done the leg hook takedown, and there weren't many notes to take away from this one, I find this technique fairly straight forward to pull off well, I just need to get some reps in to improve

Second repeat of this lesson, and not a whole lot to document which stood out for this one. The main takeaway point I got from practicing the body fold takedown this time was the necessity of taking a

This standing headlock defence is a kind of dynamic movement, where you essentially go from standing crouched over in the traditional headlock position, and you end up sitting and pulling them over you

Clinch (aggressive opponent) is not much different to the strategy for clinch (conservative opponent), except for the obvious; that the aggressive opponent is approaching you with strikes, and the conservative

So the indicator for the standing armlock is your opponent extending their arm to grab your shirt or push your chest area, you grab their pushing wrist with both of your hands, (the same type of grip you

This was the second time I'd done this lesson, and not a whole heap of noteworthy experiences this time. I managed the 3 variations of the headlock escape from side mount quite well this time around, better

The guard pull was the standing technique this time. So, from the clinch, the indicator is when your opponent tries to create space by backing/pushing their hips away from yours. You essentially switch

The rear takedown drill involves responding to the indicator of your opponent attempting to push your head into a guillotine once you have established the clinch. You take this opportunity to step forward

I was familiar with both of these techniques, but it was still the first time doing them at this academy. The haymaker punch defence is where someone charges at you to throw a haymaker, with significant

My second round of doing this lesson, and it went a lot more smoothly than the first time. I usually have some issues with my footwork in regards to establishing clinches and doing takedowns, more so when

My first repeat lesson! As in, the second time I've done this lesson at this new academy, and the first time I've repeated a lesson there. As I've said previously, given that I've described these techniques
