You may be familiar with how to roll a joint, but do you know how to roll a blunt? The process of rolling a blunt is very similar to rolling a joint, you will simply be using a tobacco leaf instead of a traditional rolling paper.

A blunt is a cannabis cigar. The term originated from the Phillies Blunt brand cigars, but has since been used to refer to any inexpensive cigar or cigarillo that is hollowed-out and then re-rolled using ground cannabis. Some companies even sell blunt wraps, which do not have any tobacco inside and are sold ready to be re-rolled.

Often times, people refer to blunts by the brand of cigar or wrap they prefer. For instance, ‘sweets’ typically refer to Swisher Sweets, ‘woods’ refer to Backwoods, and ‘dutches’ refer to Dutch Masters. Which one is best? Whichever one you prefer. They all serve the same function; feel free to choose your favorite based on size, flavor, and texture.
Make sure you have all the key smoking accessories for rolling great blunts: grinder, wrap, cannabis, and a lighter at the bare minimum. There are several tips that require the above items if you want to improve your smoking experience.
Prepare Your Leaf
The first step is to prepare the cigar for rolling. In order to hollow out the cigar, you will need to split it open. This is typically done using your fingers or a blade; we will demonstrate both methods. Note: If you are using a blunt wrap, this step will not apply as the tobacco leaf is not filled with tobacco.

When splitting the cigar open with your fingers, we recommend starting at the end with the mouthpiece and working down towards the end that will be ignited. If the cigar is too dry, it will be difficult to perform this step without cracking the outside. To combat a dry cigar or wrap, try breathing on it, licking it, or wrapping it in a moist paper towel. We have even heard of people putting dry cigars in the microwave for a few seconds to improve malleability – not my style, but feel free to give it a try! The alternative is to use a sharp blade, something like a knife or razor to split the cigar.

Regardless of the method you choose, the important part is removing all of the tobacco from the cigar.

If the tobacco leaf is still dry, you can give it another lick so it becomes more pliable.

Now you should have a tobacco leaf rolling paper that is ready to be filled with cannabis.
Grind the Cannabis
Grab your favorite strain and grind it up. A fine, uniform grind is important as it will result in slow-burning blunt with a smooth draw. We often use a weed grinder card positioned over a smell proof container to make it easy to grind the flower and then pour it right into the leaf. Arrange the bud for rolling
Blunts are typically rolled straight, as opposed to coned. Thus, the next step is to evenly arrange the ground bud in the trough of the bunt/wrap.

An uneven dispersion will make rolling the blunt into a straight, uniform cylinder very difficult.
Roll slowly, compacting the flower

Tuck & Lick
The tuck can be initiated at the mouthpiece or in the middle of the blunt, it's a matter of personal preference. If you choose to start at the mouthpiece, give that 1/3rd a lick and stick it down; working your way to the end that will be lit.

Alternatively, you can start in the middle, sealing the middle 1/3rd and then moving towards either end.

Seal and Dry
Once the blunt is sealed, you can use a lighter to dry out any moisture left from licking and sticking.
