Nigeria is a beautiful country. Our beauty lies in our hearts. We are a blessed nation. We have everything you can ever think of; great natural resources, wildlife and even bad government. One amazing thing about Nigerians is how united we are in attitude. When you meet a Nigerian, it is never difficult to tell that indeed this is a Nigerian.
Today I am going to be sharing with us some of our great attributes as Nigerians. The funny thing is we do this anywhere we find ourselves, home and abroad. I guess it is somehow ingrained in our DNAs but hey! Who is judging? It is what makes us unique. Right? Let's jump right into it then.
We don't like the word "Sorry".
Tell a Nigerian sorry and they will respond "You too sorry". The overly religious ones will even ask you not to tell them sorry but "congratulations" 馃槃. Nigerian ladies never like when a guy says sorry to them. You'd hear responses like "Will I eat sorry? Keep your sorry for yourself". I wonder if sorry is a bad word to say now馃槃.
Another funny thing is our response to "Thank you". The normal response to thank you ought to be "You are welcome" but a typical Nigerian would rather say "Don't mention". I mean I have mentioned it already 馃槃馃槃. I don't know where we learnt that from.
We are too religious
An average Nigerian believes too much in the powers of prayers without action. I mean, there is nothing wrong in praying but when you pray for God to shoot the price of BTC from $19 to $60 in twenty-four hours seems to me like you are disturbing God. That's the type of prayers Nigerians pray. This is why you find Nigerians typing "amen" to every post with Jesus's picture on Facebook. If you aren't guilty, I'm sure your Nigerian mother is 馃槣. Little wonder you can find a two story building with four different churches in it.
We don't like someone telling us they are suffering
Nigerians don't like being told this statement. Once you tell a Nigerian that you are suffering they will respond with "See you, if I tell you my own story you will pity me". C'mon, maybe your story is worse but allow me the spotlight at this moment. It is not a competition or is there an award for who is suffering the most?
Nigerians run when they see someone running
Giphy
If you are in a crowd and you see someone running towards you and the rest of the crowd starts running, just know you are amongst Nigerians. We don't ask questions, we run first to safety before asking to know why the person was running. Most times, the person is just running for no reason 馃槃馃槃. It's always a funny scene in Nigeria. Some people would even remove their shoes and hold it in their hands so they can run very fast. Nobody wants to be caught by whatever is chasing that individual.
Shouting Up nepa whenever electricity is restored
Nigerians have a funny way of acting each time power is restored. You can't blame us though. We stay more in darkness than light. If you are in Nigeria and they bring the light, don't worry, we have human alarms that will shout "Up Nepa" and once power is off, they will still shout "Off Nepa".
The craziest part of it is when the light lasts longer than expected,a typical Nigerian would be like "This one there's been light since morning are we safe?馃槃馃槃. NEPA is an acronym for the electricity distribution company. Although the name has since been changed to PHCN, Nigerians would always refer to them as NEPA just like we refer to all types of noodles as indomie and all types of gum as chewing gum.
Watch out this space tomorrow for a continuation of Nigeria happened to us. Until i come your way again, this is The COMedy Rumble week 3. Keep rumbling.
