Happy weekend warrior! The end is almost here, and the battles are getting tougher.I want to share two battles with you, because I would always remember them for a while too come.
Splinterlands fam, I had two very satisfying back-to-back wins in Modern Ranked where my opponents felt the full wrath of Thorns. Both Hanv and Sheng Xiao brought aggressive lineups, but the constant damage reflection + sustain proved too painful for them.
Splinterlands is no walk in the park, but that's what amps up the excitement.A winning strategy weighs stats, abilities, rulesets, mana caps, and beyond. That's why you must factor them all into your deck building.Toss in strong cards to boost your setups, and push hard to rack up as many victories as possible! 🔥.
HANV.
Battle 1: vs HanvThe total mana cost for this battle was 78,and you are to choose units from fire and life elements.
Rulesets:
Unprotected — All units have 0 Armor and cannot gain armor from Archon or abilities.
Maneuvers — All units have Reach (can use melee attacks from the 2nd position).
Arcane Dampening — All units have Void (50% less magic damage, rounded up — or zero from 1-power magic attacks).
My Summoner:Eternal Tofu
Buffs: +2 Health, Snare, Thorns to all friendly units, and Corrosive Ward + Shield on three key units.
Opponent’s Summoner: Hanv.
Buffs: Deflect to all friendly units, and Double Strike + Swiftness granted to only one unit (Gobalano Soldier**).
My Lineup:
Tank: Dar Gottem Gearnut (Melee attack, with Trample)granted Divine Shield+Corrosive ward.
Vitasset (Dual,Magic/Melee attack with Charge)
Gramel the Hunger (Triple Ranged/Magic/Melee attack with Charge + Scattershot)
Nephket(Dual Ranged/Melee attack with Sneak + Stun)
Olivia of the Brook(Dual Magic/Melee attack with Opportunity + Mimic) ganted Divine Shield and corrosive ward.
Meriput Magician (Magic attack with Tank Heal) granted Divine Shield+Corrosive ward.
Opponent’s Lineup:
Doomshield Warden (Melee attack, with Flank + Relentless Strike)
Mantaroth (Melee attack with Shield + True Strike)
Groove Doomblade (Melee attack, with Sneak + Fury + Stun)
Gobalano Soldier(Melee attack with Sneak + Ambush) —granted Double Strike + Swiftness by Hanv
Magmaforged (Ranged attack with Pinpoint)
Ballista Deadshot(Magic attack with Scattershot + Dispel)
Because of the lengthy rounds, I would just give a summary of what happened,so that when you watch you will understand what transpired.
Despite Unprotected stripping all armor,Thorns + Corrosive Ward from Tofu turned every enemy attack into heavy self-damage.
Nephket was a legend — repeatedly stunning the Ballista Deadshot, preventing the +5 magic nuke from ever going off properly.
Olivia stole multiple abilities with Mimic at crucial moments.
The combination of Reach on both sides made positioning wild, but my sustain (+2 Health + healing) and reflection damage carried me through.
Happy Viewing.
START OF BATTLE
THE END.
Sheng Xiao.
Battle 2: vs Sheng XiaoI can't believe I won this battle, because the six monsters presented by my opponent were all.maxed.
The total mana cost was 72, and you are to choose units from earth, life and dragon elements.
The ruleset is;
Need for speed, you can only summon units with three or more speed.
My Summoner: Eternal Tofu
+2 Health to the team (huge for longevity under Need for Speed pressure).
Snare on enemies (slows their advance/positioning).
Thorns to all friendly units (reflect damage — excellent vs aggressive melee and multi-attackers).
Corrosive Ward + Shields on three key units (strong defensive layering).
Opponent Summoner: Sheng Xiao
Grants Poison Burst + Corrosive Ward to 2 units.
This is strong burst/DoT potential, but more situational and less team-wide than Tofu’s kit.
My Lineup:
Doomshield Warden – Melee Tank with Flank. Solid frontliner.
Saltwraith Bulkhead – Melee with Weary (applies fatigue/slow — synergizes beautifully with Snare).
Vitassent– Dual (Magic/Melee) with Charge.
Olivia of the Brook– Dual (Magic/Melee) with Opportunity + Mimic. This unit is a monster in the mid-game — mimics key enemy abilities or amplifies Opportunity strikes.
"Satha Toledo* – Ranged with Tank Heal.
Meriput Magician – Magic damage with Tank Heal. Reliable backline sustain.
Opponent’s Lineup:
Skyspire Yak – Melee Tank (Armored Strike + Heal).
Hodlor– Dual with Reach + Dispel + Phase (very annoying utility).
Bren Palesworn– Dual (Ranged/Melee) with Sneak + Shapeshift + Weapon Training + True Strike (high single-target delete potential).
Zyrx the Emberglace – Dual (Magic/Melee), Flying + Incendiary + Charge + Execute + Bloodlust (+ Poison/Corrosive). This was my opponent's main carry.
Lady Stealthfire– Ranged with Camouflage + Repair + Inspire.
Gramel the Hunger – Triple Attack with Charge + Scattershot + Relentless Strike + Shapeshift + Camouflage (extremely dangerous late-round scaler).
My opponent went for high-damage, high-variance carries (Zyrx Execute + Gramel Triple Attack). I countered with layered defense (Thorns + Shields + double Tank Heals). His poison burst was mitigated by your Corrosive Ward and heals and burtst came in late as well.My double Tank Heals (Satha + Meriput) kept my frontline alive longer than it had any right to.
Thorns + Shields + Corrosive Ward created a very "sticky" and punishing defensive shell.
Weary + Snare severely hampered the opponent’s high-speed/multi-attack threats.
Olivia’s Mimicking was devastating.
Happy Viewing.
START:My opponent with fully maxed uits.
THE END:
I successfully played a "grind them down" strategy against a "kill fast" lineup — classic tank/sustain beats burst when executed well.
Verdict:
This was a textbook example of superior team synergy and summoner value overcoming higher individual unit power and investment. The fact that I defeated maxed Archons with this setup shows strong understanding of the current meta and ruleset.
