Author's Note:

(Don't worry, this will be quick)

Okay so I'm just gonna say this —and I do hope some of you can relate — why in the holy hydrogen are mothers so obsessed with drinking water?!!!

It's always: "Every morning when you wake up honey, make sure you drink at least 2 gallons of water!" and😐, "Skip that coffee son! Nothing gets your metabolism going like 7 glasses of water!" and🙄, "Why does your skin look so terrible? I knew it! You've not been drinking enough water!" and😤, "There's a reason it's called water treatment son! I mean, do I have to spell it out for ya?"

And amazingly😕, "Your girlfriend only left you because you weren't drinking enough water sweetie!" and stupendously🙂, "I'm sure the doctor is wrong my dear, you're not sick! You just haven't been drinking enough water!"🤨

Goddamnit Ma!!!!!

Please, PLEASE tell me my mother isn't the only crazy psycho water enthusiast out there?...

Okay, okay... i know what you're thinking now: "Oh but Zeraton, water is life no?" and maybe even, "Common man, she's right though. Doctors say we should drink atleast 8 glasses of water every day!"

True true, but let me offer you a counter proposal

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

Anyway, this short illustration below should effectively summarize I and my mother's relationship with water :)

Anyway, so about that Screenplay...

Yeah so since the beginning of last week, I've been writing this short play for my local German language school, titled: Es ist Lebendig!(It's alive!). And thankfully, I was able to round it up over the weekend.

Es ist Lebendig is a short play written by unknown screenwriter, Zeraton, that has been heavily inspired by the popular Frankenstein Monster genre. The estimated performance duration of the play is somewhere between 10-12 minutes(excluding any intermissions by stage crew).

Frankly, I had a good time writing this script! Not only did it spark up the inner creativity within me in ways i couldn't have possibly imagined before, but it also really helped me improve on my schreiben(writing) und Sprechen(speaking) skills. Infact, once rehearsals for the play have concluded, I'm certain that everyone else would've improved as well in said skills.

So, win win really!

To be honest, this was my first ever experience in writing an actual script.

During the entire writing process, I made sure I always consulted the help of my teacher, Herr Angelo(the director) as he has some experience with theatre and stage drama performances. Equally, I had some assistance from him in proof reading and editing the dialogues, as my German ist momentan nicht so gut 😅(not so good at the moment)

But yeah, I definitely did get some good tips and pointers from him.

Anywho, turns out that the work of a playwright in theatre production is a lot more extensive than I had previously imagined.

For example:

  • The playwright is not only in charge of writing the script but also responsible for writing and emailing production notes to the stage manager and crew.

  • Playwrights are expected to attend early rehearsals incase the director decides to make any changes to the script.

  • And if the director does infact decide to change something, you bet your ass you're gonna have to re -write the whole thing!

  • Playwrights are expected to lias with production team and I mean, A LOT!!! We're talking meetings and meetings with producers , directors, sponsors, sometimes even the actors!

  • And the most important of all: Playwrights don't get enough sleep!
    It's true.

Ha! Now I know what the writers of Rick and Morty and some other great shows go through. LoL, I always thought it was just simply typing funny shit on a computer with your buddy late at night, while eating pizza and laughing your asses off.

ITS NOT. ITS A SAD SAD LONELY JOB THAT MAKES YOU FEEL EMPTY INSIDE °_°

ITS WORSE WHEN YOU DO IT FOR FREE.

So moving on, let's talk more about the synopsis of the entire play...

Screenshot_20220910-140522.png

So basically, Es ist Lebendig is a story about a grieving mad scientist(Dr Böse) whom with the help of his trusted hunch bank assistant(Sklave), embarks on an unorthodox experiment to bring his deceased wife — Claira — back to life.

It is to be noted that the play's setting begins and ends in the mad scientist lab with some few, occasional stage and prop alterations for every scene.

Throughout the entire play, we explore the relationship between Dr BÖSE and Sklave. There's of course, a lot of humor between the two characters however, there's also this alluring tint of bitterness, despair, and dreadfulness the audience get to perceive as plot progresses.

At some point, one can only help but feel empathetic and sympathetic towards Sklave and the treatment he endures from his master.

Anyway, towards the end, that ever so dreadful conflict between the Dr BÖSE and Sklave is eventually resolved upon the waking of Frankensteina (the scientist's deceased wife Claira). And consequentially, Sklave finally finds freedom far away from his wicked master.

Then abruptly, the story ends with a pretty tragic and gruesome twist.

Anyway, that's all about the screenplay for now. You can find a link to a copy of the script Here if you're interested :)

Oh yeah, I should mention that this is just one of 4 different screenplays adapted for the entire play. Currently, I'm still working on the other three. Respectively, the synopsis of the other three are as followed:

  • Die Familie(The Family): A murder mystery about a wealthy German family living in Stuttgart, whom have all been ruled in as suspects in a murder case surrounding the death of their Grandfather, Müller.

  • Against all odds: A slice of life drama about a young Nigerian lady and the struggles she faces in her daily life as a foreigner in Germany.

  • Der Übeltäter(The Evildoer):. A historical drama based on the gruesome effect of the German Nazis in World War II and the Holocaust.

Maybe I'll make a post about bthem some other time.

Anyway, I thought it would have been nice if i could record the live performance of the play and posted it here on Hive opening night. However, considering how I've already attended early rehearsals, I had to take a raincheck on that😅.

No way in hell am i gonna let those guys embarrass me with their cringey, mediocre, monkey ass performances.

THANKS FOR READING AND KEEP EXPLORING!!
