Who would have thought that the sign I was looking for would be between 2 breweries I had the chance to tour while on my mini vacation last week? Here we had just enjoyed a nice flight of beers from https://evilcorpbrewing.com and were heading across the street to the next place (to be featured tomorrow on #beersaturday) when BAM it hit us. This is the sign we were looking for!
I have been thinking about the advice I am giving business people on social media messaging and how it is the easier and hardest thing to do well. It is easy and free (except for the time) to create social media accounts (both centralized and decentralized) and post messages. The message doesn't have to be perfect and imperfection has its charm as it IS social media. Still, there are 1000s of messages being delivered daily and that is only on the rise as businesses up their digital promotion game. Then, we pass hundreds of signs everywhere, all calling for our attention with a different message. How does your sign break through?
One of the best ways is being different and creative. You are damn right I paused to look at this sign.
it spoke to me. I appreciated the process from funny idea through approval, to communication, fabrication and installation of the sign. Those responsible probably stood under it just like I was to admire it.
What was it advertising? Can't remember. So you have my attention. What are you going to do with it? Consult a marketing expert to turn those creative signs into the desired action!
I am no fan of U2 but the theme and their popularity is undeniable. Here is one of their classics and I still haven't found what I am looking for decades later.
Understanding and Decisions
This is a sign on a wall at the Royal Tyrrell Museum https://tyrrellmuseum.com/ I will take you through there this week but know it is one of the largest collections of dinosaur fossils in the world. I love how they framed this collection in periodic history lessons and stories from the lives to the excavation of each. Stay tuned for that!
Another neat thing was the lesson they posed at the end of the marathon tour. Paraphrased, it meant for us to take all of the wonder and discovery just experienced and use it for something beyond consumption of what could be converted into trivia.
The sign just below represented the average temperature of the planet through millennia. I love that it shows there IS credence that global temperature is cyclical and often pushed by extraterrestrial events. It also shows the era of man right at the end and the unprecedented spike in global temperature with the industrial age! Sure we have been hotter than this before but never has a shift happened that quickly. Impossible to stop now but perhaps slow so the ramifications are not catastrophic if it is not too late to slow the next global event that wipes out 50% of the population.....as it has happened 5 times so far that we can tell.
We all learn a different amount of things every day. It is what we do with that information that makes the real difference and whether we are heeding those signs!
