Sara held the sensor firmly in her hands, the miniature computer operating on a combination of spells devised by Nip herself. Each step closer to the garden brought with it a louder and more frequent series of beeps. High above, the clouds rolled overhead, their darkness all encompassing. Lightning flashed to the surface a few hundred metres from Sara, the ensuing boom nearly deafening her.
Someone had set up a weather hex in the neighbourhood, cursing the street with localised flooding and thunderstorms. This gadget would hopefully lead her directly to the hexed object, and with the help of her own enchanted knife, she would be able to put an end to this chaos and an end to the constant complaints from the nearby tenants.
Sara worked her way throughout the garden, playing hot or cold with the beeping device. Approaching a nest of brambles, the sensor began beeping aggressively. Reaching to her boot, she pulled the regular, unenchanted machete from its sheathe, and hacked away at the ball of thorns.
Before long, she found the cursed object. A beaten-up weathervane, half buried in the ground below the brambles. It glowed a dull purple and was unusually hot to touch. Sara pulled the knife from her other boot, its magical steel weightless in her fingertips. Lifting the blade above her head, she aligned it with the weathervane and struck hard into its surface. The collision released a howl: a hissing bellow that rang out across the neighbourhood.
The object showed some resistance, and Sara readied a second strike. The first had left a scratch along the vane’s façade, and with a well-placed blow to the same location, Sara shattered the weather vane into a number of pieces, and the curse dissipated with quaking rumble. Purple smoke swirled out of its centre, before collecting and shooting into the sky above, leaving Sara dishevelled and grateful the experience was finally over.
