“We’re going to build a wall, and Mexico is going to pay for it.” Trump’s rally blared on the TV in the background as Cecilia chopped carrots on the kitchen counter.

Dropping the finished diced vegetables into the stock pot, she turned the heat up and put its lid on. She returned to the sofa and glanced over at her husband, knee-deep in the Sunday paper and his oversized briefs.

“Do we have to watch this if you’re not even paying attention?” she reached over to the remote on the arm of her husband’s chair, and his hand sprang to retrieve it.

“Don’t you touch my remote,” he snarled.

“Your remote? I don’t remember you getting off your fat ass to go work to pay for your remote.”

“Tssch. It’s my house, I get to decide what’s on the TV. Now shut it and grab me a beer.”

“Get your own damn beer.” Grabbing a magazine from the coffee table, Cecilia returned to her last read page – an opinion piece on the best new knitting needles of 2016 – avoiding the scowl painted on her husband’s face.
