Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!
However, on the 26th one, I have decided that it is big enough to call this series a Library!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.
So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:
Today we are reviewing another Death Guard unit, the Traitor Legion dedicated to the Plague God Nurgle. The Chaos Lord is a model that represents a war-leader that is not a named character, but instead a typical battle leader.
This sort of leader has a variety of weapon options. The most important thing they bring to the table are their abilities, but of course, most Lords and Captains that are Space Marines or Chaos Space Marines are fairly powerful.
Let’s have a look at those stats!
Movement 5" (Death Guard are always a little slower than average)
Toughness 5 (And then they are Tougher than the average too!
Save 3+/4++
Wounds 5
Leadership 6+
OC 1
There are a lot of options, the standard for 65pts is plague bolt pistol and Astartes chainsword.
Then the options are as follows:
My two highlighted weapons above are the two I would watch out for for my armies.
A Plague Fist is a power fist with built in Lethal Hits... in fact, most Death Guard weapons have Lethal Hits meaning a roll of a 6, to Hit, auto wounds any target!
Plague-encrusted exalted weapon gives you 6x Strength 5 Attacks, AP -2 and Damage 1 with Lethal Hits.
Chaos Lord
While leading a unit, if a model in the unit makes an attack, re-roll rolls of a 1.
This is great for himself and the squad of Plague Marines he joins.
Desiccation Conduit
This is a powerful rule. While an enemy unit is within Contagion Range of the Chaos Lord, at the end of the turn, roll a D6, on a 4+, the unit suffers D3 Mortal Wounds!
Quite good at dealing extra damage to big tough units or dealing loads of damage to many units.
All in all I feel that he is a great unit, but I do not see anyone in my local hobby group playing him. Possibly because there are better options to put into a unit of Plague Marines... we shall see!
Thank you for reading!
