Bitcoin is going mainstream
For all intents and purposes, this should have been great news! It was finally cool to be socially open about that stupid internet money that you'd been obsessing over for the past several years. Right? Now I was the coolest kid in the playground because I called it several years ago that Bitcoin would take over the world and change the way we viewed money etc etc.
Except it didn't really turn out that way.
My social media is full of crypto posers now.
These are the people who pick up on the latest fad, whatever that may be. They're the people changing their display pictures every month to support the latest watershed moment in the world, or unironically using the latest viral meme in day to day speech.
To these people, Bitcoin is just the next trend in a long line of things 'to be seen out in public with'.
And it annoys the hell out of me. They aren't buying it because they're interested in the Blockchain, or in decentralization, or in bringing the power back to the people. They just saw what they believed to be a quick opportunity to make money, and jumped in without any idea what was going on. Rest assured, most of these guys will get eaten up by the sharks in an instant.
But that's not all. As soon as these guys make a 10% flip and sell it back, they suddenly start acting like they're professional traders, and that they can repeat the results at any time of the day. The worst are those who say "Imagine if I had put even more money in... This is how much I'd have gotten out". Try making those same gains in a bear market~
"Geez bro you'd be a millionaire now if you'd put in 10000 instead of 100"
These very same people who think they've mastered the market and mastered trading will then cry foul as soon as their purchase is down 10%. They'll be the loudest ones to tell everyone crypto is a scam and not to put a single dollar into it.
It doesn't end there, however, because now people think I'm a millionaire and that I've put a deposit down on a new Lamborghini. Yeah, I wish it was that easy to make money too. If you'd held and literally forgotten about your coins for eight years, only to rediscover them now, then maybe you'd have a case. Heck, if that was the case, you want a Lamborghini too?
If it was easy, everyone would be doing it
It frustrates me to no end that people have very little understanding of how much work a person needs to put into crypto to make it work. It is an endless journey of a perpetual cycle of euphoria and despair, a constant nagging FOMO that you will become intimately familiar with and experience every waking second of the day, and a trying process of falling down, scraping your knees, and picking yourself back up again. You don't learn the real lessons of trading until you've put your skin in the game, and if you make it through that and can still hold your head up high, then perhaps you have what it takes to be a real trader and not a hipster trader.
