For the most part of my life, I've had people tell me that I'm different. It all started with my mom who constantly thinks back to the day I was born and mentions how I was born with a candle stick, yet the moment she needed to see my face there was power after several months of power outage.
It's one of those stories mothers tell to make their kids feel special. My birth just happened to be a coincidence. Who knows how many other kids were born at that very moment and how their moms tell them the same story.
I don't think I'm special most times. I've had instances where I was sure I deserved to be treated better because in my mind I imagined I was special yet I was just another number. Just another human.
Like every human, I have things about myself that I consider different. I know nothing about my physical appearance is particularly special, however, I think I have a way with people that's considerably different from the usual.
I'm not a very nice person. I'm filled with a lot of sarcasm and bad habits. Yet, with my many bad traits, I have a tendency to be curious about people and that makes them like me.
I don't act curious in a suspicious way, rather I just do it in a nice way. A lot of times, people tell me that they sense that I'm genuinely interested in them and their affairs, and I am.
I try to keep track of birthdays and sometimes even the birthdays of their spouses, kids and weirdly even pets. I remember their appointments and when I forget, I feel bad. I try to be a listening ear and I avoid giving counsel when I notice they don't want it.
While this might seem like I'm blowing my trumpet, I know I'm not a nice person. I am mean most times and sometimes, I say things about people behind their backs because I don't want to hurt their feelings. Alhtough these things I say are never derogatory, I know it's not the best. I'm still learning how to be confrontational without entirely ruining relationships.
To prove that I'm trying, recently I confronted 2 people who had done things that upset me several times. Both people are still kind towards me so I guess I didn't do a bad job with my confrontation.
Conclusion
I'm a human and I know my flaws. I see the ones that aren't so great and I work on them as often as I can.
Just as much as I know I have flaws, I know I'm a very good friend and I am always there for the ones who need me.
