Navigating through the Steemit platform as of 2017 was a huge hassle.
I remember vividly how difficult it was for me to sign up, or rather how difficult I made it seem. I was bribed (with a box of cupcakes) and begged to sign up.
I have to say that the community has improved immensely from the first time I started. And why wouldn't it? There are a lot of amazing people here, it would be a shame if it didn't.
Getting on Steemit was a blessing I didn't appreciate then. I was lazy and unwilling to learn. I still am though, just a little bit more informed and equipped.
I'd like to say that my major challenge with Steemit then was working on a phone. I had no idea that getting a laptop by March 2020 would improve my Hive game so strongly, but it has. And not only that, I've been able to recover the money I spent in getting a laptop from my Hive blessings. That's a big deal for me.
My Initial Drawbacks
I hated the many keys. I had no idea why there were so many. Plus, I'm usually great at cramming passwords, not being able to cram that one just put me in a bad place. I was certain I wouldn't last long here.
If not for the help of @belemo who was kind enough to save my keys somewhere in my email and his or something, I'm pretty certain I wouldn't be here by now.
My next challenge was keeping up with the community jargons. I had no idea what blockchain was, or crypto, or any of that. And people always tend to write about that sort of stuff here. I can't lie, it gave me a headache. Huge thanks go to @Bhoa for teaching me the basics a few days ago. I was LOST!
Getting upvotes had to be my next challenge. I felt left out. Like the entire community was going right and I just didn't get the memo and took a detour left. One day they LOVE my post and bless me with fat upvotes, next day I write something similar but not so similar and I'm battling for a 0.01. It affected my self-esteem, can't deny. Still does though but I'm learning other means to still claim rewards every day, regardless of if I write daily or not.
I suck at interacting with people, and that's the onus of the Hive platform, INTERACTION. I am still learning how to do this properly to attract a friend or two from this platform. I'm learning every day.
Finally, carving a niche for myself has been and still is one of my biggest challenges. I mean, can my niche just be nicheless? I write about love, politics sometimes, books, personal development, and my life. I've been told picking a struggle would probably help increase my chances of being amazing here, but I'm yet to let anything click. I probably never will.
So, there you have it. My Hive Challenges. I bet a lot of people have similar issues, so I won't feel very self-conscious about these.
Thanks for this Hive Naija, you're one of the best things to come out of our wonderful country (smell my sarcasm).
