I’ve been a little out of the chess game lately. Before this, I’d hit a slump that brought my rating down to 1,000 in 5-minute flash Blitz games—quite low compared to the nearly 1,300 I’d reached at my peak earlier this year. This losing streak is a bit discouraging, but honestly, it was only to be expected given how inconsistent my play had been, and that, well, it showed in my game.

Today I played a game; I had the black pieces. Right from the start, I focused on playing quite defensively while trying to reach a position where my king would be safe. My plan didn't work out because I ended up in a position where I could exchange my bishop for my knight—a move I make very often. So I took advantage of the opportunity to make that move to feel a little freer without that knight, with the possibility of reaching the center of the board.

I tried to play a quick game, but there was still some risk—though not as much as in the previous position. The important thing is that I was able to pin down his queen, and from there it was just a matter of a few more moves before my victory was declared.
