Our most recent trip to Curarigua had a special twist: when we arrived at Uncle “Chusmaria’s” house, we noticed an 18-inch bicycle in the shed—perfect for Jeremías. The best part was that it was in good condition; we’d seen it before, but it had been out of commission.

This time, the bike provided Jeremías with the perfect mode of transportation to explore the streets of “Campo Alegre City.”

On this particular day, I got up super early to pick up some milk from our neighbor Edgar, make breakfast, and get everything ready so we could go visit the upper part of the village. That’s where my grandparents’ house is, and right across from it is my mom’s house—a visit we can’t miss whenever we come to the countryside.

Jeremías would hop on that bike and leave me way behind; sometimes I’d see him looking so tiny, and I’d have to yell for him to wait for me. This little boy rode happily on his makeshift bike, never stopping to pedal and savoring the freedom of reaching the horizon in the Curarigua Valley.

The route involves crossing a couple of mountains; in fact, the road passes through the junction of two high mountains, which first involves a long climb and then a descent down a slope—I’d guess about 45 degrees, based on my untrained assessment of the terrain.

By the way, Jeremiah asked me for permission to ride down this hill without brakes—if anyone had seen him, the look on his face was priceless. He’s definitely pure innocence; he has no idea how dangerous this super-steep hill is. What he didn’t know is that his dad had done it at some point, but obviously, his dad was a 14- or 15-year-old teenager back then, and Jeremiah is only 8 years old.

We arrived at Mom's house, and she treated us with lots of love, as always, welcoming us with a kiss and a hug full of energy. She invited us to sit down, and so we sat there catching up for quite a while.

Then we went to our grandparents’ house to check on the final details of the fence they were fixing, shoot some videos to send to the family, and enjoy spending some time there in the shade of the trees and listening to the sound of the buco, which is part of our family’s roots.

Jere's bike went everywhere; his cousins said it was anti-tunas. Several days went by, and nothing happened to it. Days filled with one blessing after another. I'm sharing them with you through these photos. Stay safe.

Saludo.
