I usually spend Sundays with my family, either at home or out and about, but this weekend a friend had invited me more than three weeks ago to a gathering featuring dance therapy and other sports activities. The event was in Maracay at a shopping mall in the city and started in the morning, but we were only going in the afternoon for the presentation by her Strong instructor.
She’d been inviting me to various classes for a while, so I wanted to attend the event, even though she hadn’t told me her instructor was going to perform at 2:30 p.m. That time just made me think we’d be out in the sun and the heat would be stifling, but luckily for us, the sky was cloudy and the weather was pleasant. But since nothing is perfect, we were worried it might rain. We went to the event anyway; admission was quite affordable at $2.30.
To be honest, when the day finally came, I didn't want to go, but being there changed my perspective—it was a good decision to attend. We arrived and they were doing a karate demonstration, followed by a dance therapy class, which I love. I liked it because it was energetic, with great music, and they even had us dance in pairs, so my friend was my partner—we danced quite a bit.
Then came the women’s competition, and I was amazed—an 85-year-old woman was among the four women who had to do squats, and the one who lasted the longest won. This woman was the second to drop out, and I think that’s absolutely amazing—she lasted quite a while. We gave her a huge round of applause because at her age, not everyone can last that long. I’d love to be as beautiful and healthy as she is—and active, above all.
Then there was the men’s plank competition. It was really good, though I thought they’d last longer. But this competition was also intense, since they had to do push-ups—going down and up—and they finished in less than three minutes. Their arms got pretty tired; There were also booths in these areas with different products, such as shoes, food, accessories, and beauty products, among others. I didn’t stop by them because I planned to go after the Strong class, but the rain prevented me from doing so.
After that, the Zumba class began. Although it wasn’t what I was used to, a 17-year-old girl led it and did a great job. Then came the Strong class, which to me was very similar to what used to be called Kingboxing. The instructors did a great job, but just as we were wrapping up, it started to rain and everyone ran outside. That’s how our fitness expo day ended.
