Odd, where I live things are getting quieter. Cars are getting quieter, etc.. People seem to be more hushed when they converse, etc.
I live near a school. Passing kids used to be quite vocal as they passed. Now they talk in hushed voices; Sometimes I see groups of kids who are essentially silent.
Back in the 1980s, people in the US were buying boom boxes and men measured their masculinity by the size of their speakers. There were large stores that specialized in loud audio equipment.
Adding sub-woofers to low-riders became a thing and it was common to hear lowriders shaking entire neighborhoods.
My guess is that the police give tickets to loud cars.
Anyway, today, people seem to be using headphones.
Perhpas the noise level is cyclical and different cities might be at different places in the cycle.
